Randor Hotel Kyoto Suites

Kyoto City Centre Kyoto|1.28km from Raigoin
My family and I planned a trip to Osaka and Kyoto. Our original plan was to stay in Kyoto. We reserved a room at the Randor Residential Hotel Kyoto Suites for 3 nights as the reviews were very positive and the rate was exceptional. We reviewed the cancellation policy and understood it as saying the room is refundable provided cancellation occurs 7 days prior to arrival. Soon after booking the room, our family decided it would be best to stay in Osaka as opposed to Kyoto. We cancelled the room at the Randor. This was 8 days prior to our planned arrival, however, I noticed that I was not refunded for the stay. I called customer service at the third party site from which we booked (I was unable to find a direct website for the hotel) as it is their policy they should communicate directly with the hotel. They contacted the hotel and were told their policy was that the cancellation must occur ”7 days prior to the day prior to arrival” and that they would not refund the money as a result. I felt this wording was odd as I have stayed at hotels all of the world and know that cancellation policies typically do not reference ”the day prior to the day prior to arrival”, however, recognized that perhaps I had misunderstood. I instead requested to have the room back since we were still making the trip, had not yet reserved another hotel, and my money would not be refunded. I was told that there were no other rooms available. I viewed my travel dates on multiple websites and saw that there were many other rooms available at this hotel. If the hotel did not plan to refund me, and there were still rooms available on my travel dates, I was unclear as to why I could not be given an available room. The hotel said they would need to speak with their manager and that he would return the following day. I followed up on this concern daily, however, everyday that we called (during normal business hours in Japan) the manager was not available to discuss this concern. To add insult to injury, the website now said that the cancellation policy was that cancellations should occur ”3 days prior to the day of arrival” and the policy continued to change with each day. We ended up losing our money and having to scramble to find a room at another hotel the day before our trip. I had not booked another room because I have been living in Japan for two years and become accustomed to outstanding customer service. I was not requesting a refund and there were many rooms still available at the hotel, so I was confident that the hotel would make good on my request for ANY room, but it seems this was not the case. I certainly understand policies as I make them routinely at my own job, however, if something is a ”policy” it should not change from day to day. I will be more than happy to speak to a representative from Randor about my experience in hopes of improving customer service for future patrons.

The hotel management let us down in the last 15 minutes before we left although everything was good before then. We checked out 15 minutes earlier at around 9.45 in the morning and loaded our luggage to our car at the hotel parking space. Just walked away, a man rushed to us and yelled at us without showing his identity: ‘Did you park your car there? You must go now!’ We said that we were the hotel guest and asked who he was. Reluctantly but still not showing his name badge, he said that he was the hotel manager (what a hotel manager!) and insisted we must drive away immediately. Very unset to a hotel guest who was allowed by its staff to park their car the night before to be greeted by a manager like that, right? Going back to the hotel front desk to settle the trouble, the man remained arrogant, did not apologize and just kept saying ‘you CANNOT park the car’ without mentioning why we COULD in fact park our car there overnight. (Why it was permitted by front desk staff? Why was there no sign and no block there? Why no one called to our room and explained if it was a breach of hotel regulation?) When we said as a hotel guest we should still have the right to park the car before checkout time which was 10.00 am, the man seemed not figuring out what our argument was and, most ridiculously, as a hotel manager to greet guests all over the world, he did not know what the words ‘courtesy’ and ‘polite’ mean. Fortunately we just stayed at Chisun Premium Kujo for one night in our 7-day trip in Kyoto. It was a totally different experience when we stayed at 俵屋旅館and Gate Hotel the following days, which was an authentic Kyoto experience to a frequent Kyoto traveller like us. As management in our own company, we reassure that, from Chisun’s experience, training to manager is much more important than to junior staff. Very often it is the management, not frontline staff, who irritates customers and ruins the company’s reputation. We had the man’s business card at last but are not going to show here. Hope the hotel management can train their staff professionally in the future.

Super good accommodation. Very beautiful and nostalgic, the clerk is also very good. I regret not setting aside a little more time to move in the room, and I will definitely find more friends to come back next time.

Location: The reception center is within a 10-minute walk from the Hachijo East Exit of Kyoto Station. There is a Chinese brother who is very enthusiastic. In addition, a car will be delivered to the hotel free of charge. The driver is Japanese, but he is very enthusiastic to help introduce various equipment to the room. Hotel location, in Toba Street on Keihan Line tram? (The name may be remembered incorrectly) There is also a jr line between Tofukuji Station, which can be reached within 10 minutes on foot. You can walk directly from the house to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. There are also 7-11 nearby, the house is in the alley, just to feel the sanitation of Kyoto life: very clean, my mother also asked me if the new house was unoccupied. The bathtub has also been cleaned with disinfectant. Housing facilities: It feels cold when you enter the house, but with air conditioning, it will be warm after a while. There are no problems with other facilities, very good. Disadvantages: The only disadvantage is that the house is close to the railway. During the day there will always be a warning bell that a tram is passing by, as well as the sound of a train. However, the store provided earplugs. In addition, my mother and I are both very good sleepers, which will be confiscated at all. My mother is also very satisfied with the house, personally recommend it very much, next time I come, I will definitely choose here.

The room is large, the refrigerator is also very large, there is a free washing machine, and it is very convenient to dry clothes. The only disadvantage is that there are no free supplies such as mineral water, tea, etc., and it feels a bit like a homestay.

I can't believe no one has reviewed this hotel yet. I went here a year ago (in May, actually), and despite there being a small staff due to the pandemic, they went out of their way to be as accommodating as possible. The location is also incredibly convenient-- an easy walk to some famous temples or the National Museum, and only a 15 minute walk to Kyoto Station. Also, I've measured every bed I've used since against the one I slept in here. Supreme comfort.
