A grand hotel with great employees but a few bad apples. Let me explain: I went to the hotel 2 weeks in advance to investigate a weekend to celebrate my wife’s birthday. I was shown the Villa selection so chose one, told it was bailable our dates, so booked it with another room for my other guests. The Villa suggested to me, that I was assured I would get, overlooked the pool. When we checked into the hotel they gave us a different villa furthest from the pool. Next: The villa we were given had a water leak that flooded the floor but this problem was not apparent at first. My wife put her purse and suitcase in the floor and both were soaked. The next day to its credit management moved us to a very nice suite in the older part of the hotel. But we should have been given the villa I was told I would get - told while standing directly in front of your front desk face to face when I made the reservations. Next: I made reservations for 8 two weeks in advance at the Mediterranean restaurant and a few days before arrival offered to buy a birthday cake which your hotel kindly confirmed by text. When the birthday dinner was finished, there was no cake. Instead, a small slice of something was presented to my wife, I’m not sure what it was. No cake, no candles, just something left over in the kitchen, and nothing for the rest of my guests. Next: three of my guests not staying at the hotel needed Resort passes to enter. I was told they cost $50. They cost $300. No mind, I bought them. But only two guests names were on the passes and for some unknown reason the third name on a pass was mine. I didn’t need a pass; I’m staying at the hotel. This error could not be remedied by Resort Pass. When my guests arrived at the front desk it seemed to me there was some resistance admitting her because her name was not designated on any pass. After tedious explanation, you relented and let her in. This seemed a bit untoward introduction to my guests. Next: one of my guests without my knowledge brought as a gift for my wife a photographer to shoot some photos at the pool. Upon entering the pool they were loudly and rudely shouted down and told to leave the premises. This was not only extremely embarrassing and unnecessary, it was a very negative and dour experience for an otherwise joyful occasion. Clearly by my ignorance we were in the wrong here, but no pool patrons were displaced or bothered by their presence. I was told we needed permission first. Fine, a reasonable requirement. Our mistake needed to be handled discreetly and professionally, and simply was not. Next: almost not worth mentioning, but your nighttime maitre de for your restaurant is not suitable for public interaction. Her vocabulary is “no” and “I don’t know” and implicitly “I don’t care”. More suitable for a cubicle in front of a computer screen perhaps (your daytime lady was in contrast, a gem). Even and so, everything and everyone else at the hotel was a delight. It was a
