Auberge la Chatelaine

La Malbaie|3.38km from city center
My sister and I stayed at Auberge La Chatelaine for 2 nights after a kayaking trip. July 2021. We like smaller places with character, rather than larger impersonal hotels We loved the home with its interesting character and antique furnishings. There was only one room available when we booked, so we got a room on the upper floor with a queen sized bed and a claw foot tube hidden behind a screen. There was a separate little closet with a toilet. One of the owners, Laurent, greeted us and showed us around on our arrival. He and his partner were originally from France. We loved the tables and chairs that were set up on the porch with a wonderful view towards the St. Lawrence, for breakfast We loved the charm of the place, but have a few suggestions of what could make it even better: • We both like to read before bed (especially with no television) and there were no reading lights beside the bed (there were some accent lamps, but nothing to light the sides of the bed for reading) • Breakfast was good, but very plain. We were surprised it was not better. There were no fresh fruit, vegetables, spices, sauces, or garnishes added to our plates of plain omelette (only salt or pepper) You could however select an apple or banana from the paper menu you had to fill out the night before. Coffee was served in tiny cups. There was no cream offered for coffee (only milk) We thought it might be nice to have hot coffee in thermoses for each table, or to have someone come around and offer more coffee as you ate breakfast. The orange juice tasted like it was made from concentrate, at first we thought it was Tang! In the reception area there were pamplets of activities to do in the area. We picked up one on the L’Isle-Aux –Couderes and did a day trip there. Laurent gave us suggestions on where to eat. On our first night we were surprised that everything was closed in La Malbaie by 8:30! On our second night we made reservations and had a great dinner. We definitely would recommend a visit to Auberge La Chatelaine if you like a place with charm and a lovely view. You feel like you are guests in someone’s older home.

Fairmont le Manoir Richelieu

In the autumn, I went to Katong for a holiday and specially chose this hotel. It is not bad. Of course, it is not comparable to the domestic five-star. However, after all, it is Fairmont's brand. The hotel facilities are quite complete, the scenery is really good, because there is no reservation, and meet the Thanksgiving Day in Canada, there are many people coming to vacation, not able to eat at the hotel. However, I stayed at the Lobby Lounge (can see the St. Lawrence River) for a morning and it felt good. We were driving by car, we didn't know the first day, so we stopped the paid garage, 12 Canadian dollars a night, the next day, parked the car on the top (hotel) P9, it is free

Hotel-Motel Castel de la Mer

The hotel is located just a few miles from the ****** of Charlesvoix. Our room was a studio with a mini-kitchen and a large bed at the floor with a private outdoor enabling access to the parking of our vehicle. The hotel also offers its guests an outdoor space with a free-service B.B.Q. Because of covid-19 there were no breakfasts served but a lot of restaurants nearby.

The view from the room on the St-Lorenz power is very beautiful and the balcony invites to stay. Rooms size and facilities are very good. We found that the bed linen was severely polluted (spores of motornoel, dirty shoes, etc.). After a complaint, the bed linen was changed as well as the towels in the bathroom. The check-in was chaotic and we were not told that there is no cleaning and exchange service in the room. In the room, however, with a packet of drinking money is asked for the maintenance of the room! As for the food in the restaurant, I was disappointed by quality and presentation. Flesh and vegetables on the table were cold when it came. Dessert at 2 evenings the same (only the garniture of the cake changed). But what was most disturbed me was that you had to pay the service staff even though you booked half-pension. It always discusses with guests and funny credit card bills. Also at breakfast was needed to pay service!

The hotel is a private home, visiting the common airports and driving us to our room with explanations.
