Red Stone Hills

I only stayed over for the night as I was passing through and I’m so glad I found this little gem! Farm style house had everything I needed, the location was breathtaking and I’d definitely love to return! Petro was so helpful and caring, honestly couldn’t ask for a better host. Thank you for a wonderful stay! :)

From the moment you turn onto the dirt road expected the most beautiful unexpected. We stayed for only one night but so much to explore we wish we had stayed longer.

We originally planned to stay just one day, but ended up staying three. We lived in a beautiful historic yet nicely modernized cottage in the vineyard area. It’s nestled in the stunning natural surroundings of the Little Karoo, and we enjoyed having breakfast in the morning and a braai in the evening on the terrace . It’s a great starting point for hikes, a visit to the Kango Caves, or a drive to Prince Albert over the Swartberg Pass — a fantastic experience. Our host, Petro, was very warm and welcoming and helped us in every way—for example, by driving us to the starting point of our hike. We also enjoyed the braai packages. Everything is prepared; all you have to do is light the fire and put the goodies on the braai (meat or vegetarian).

The farm and red hills hold a truly special place in my heart—a sanctuary I cherish deeply with every visit. Its raw beauty and sweeping scenery never fail to bring peace to my soul, offering a rural retreat where time seems to slow and worries gently fade away. The stillness here is profound, broken only by the haunting calls of peacocks and the distant echo of baboons, all while the warmth of a wood fire braai glows at sundown. These moments are the essence of this place. I am endlessly grateful to Tannie Petro for nurturing this gem through droughts and challenges, ensuring its spirit endures. May we continue to gather, find solace, and share in the magic of this sanctuary for many years to come.

We spent 3 wonderful days at Red Stone Hills in December. Stayed in Red Rock Cottage which had 2 bed 2 bath en suite accommodation. Both rooms Airconditioned. We ordered dinner from the host Petro on 2 of the noghts. Firstly we tried the braai (one has 5 choices of combinations) the next night we tried the lighter menu ( Bobotie, Curry and chicken with rice. All came with vegetables and salads. We do not believe that we could have had better tasting and prepared food at a 5 star restaurant. The fire is also made up for the braai. What a wonderful experience. If you are in this area you cannot afford to miss this experience. We WILL be back . Thank you Petro and Staff.

Having previously driven past Red Stone Cottages, we decided it was time to spend a couple of nights. So glad we did. We arrived early but Petra allowed us to pack our fridge, and relax on the veranda, while the cottage was being cleaned. We stayed in Red Rock cottage and it was great. Loved having a choice of two fire places. The views of the mountains were incredible and as the sun moved we could move around the veranda corner. We enjoyed walks up and down the road, and along the shorter trail. A very pleasant stay

Beautiful setting and loveley private cottage with everything you could need gir a comfortable stay.

We were a party of 4 and had only 2 nights at Red Stone Hills, staying in Bushman Cottage. The accommodation was perfect with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We chose the barbecue option and I cannot recommend this highly enough. Petro and her staff were so helpful, we wished we could stay longer. Definitely a place to revisit.

A most enjoyable stay in sublime surroundings. Really appreciate the 1880 cottage we stayed in with original doors & floors.
