We had an incredibly perfect 6 nights at Alamayah, Sumba. The property is absolutely stunning and our experience was only heightened by the warm and personal service provided by the staff who treated us like family. We were picked up from the airport and driven to the hotel in spotless vehicles and as soon as we arrived given a welcome drink & and explained the property. Our room, Tahik, faced onto the ocean & it was beautiful watching the sunrise from our balcony everyday. The rooms are immaculately clean & every detail has been considered, from complimentary mini bar to toothpaste, sunscreen & bug spray. Housekeeping staff do a lovely job & we always looked forward to their turndown service in the evening which made bedtime so inviting. Every dish we ordered from the restaurant was delicious, and the menu has an excellent variety of Indonesian & Western dishes. The chefs obviously take a lot of pride in their cooking & the dishes looked and tasted amazing. Also not to be missed is the fantastic bar, the bartenders are expert cocktail makers and we indulged in a variety of different drinks during our stay. My husband who loves to surf was taken care of by the Surf Guide, which put my mind at ease knowing someone local to the area & familiar with the conditions would be out with him in the water. We had a wonderful 90 minute massage & did the Village Tour which we absolutely recommend every guest does. We are so thankful for every staff member who made our stay so memorable. We can’t wait to come & stay with you again. X

Wow .. wow .. wow … this place is amazing. ASA Solo traveler I felt like home immediately. It’s like walking to a beautiful home . Big and beautiful decorated room . Comfortable, amazing views and great staff . I went with Novri in the bike to explore the beaches around and he stayed with me all day . The Alamaya is a family house . The food is home cooking and excellent. The architecture and design is amazing . And the Ocean view … Mesmerizing. Only 7 rooms so very private and I like it . Felt amazing and safe . Really recommend the experience . It’s unique .

From the pick up at the airport to the drop off at another hotel cannot fault this place. The building is so well don, looks wonderful and has a very chilled atmosphere. looks fantastic. Beds comfortable, rooms clean and spacious! Cool bar, fantastic food, lots of great tours. Don’t feel like you are being overcharged for everything. Scooter rides to local beaches, visits to villages and waterfalls. Honest opinions about how best to spend your time for your own situation. Massages, great pool! Gloria ran the ship so well nothing was too much trouble. Every member of staff was on their game and all made such an effort. They were not over the top but obviously liked their jobs and the owners of the hotel, who also must be very proud of what they have achieved as it can’t have been easy. Sumba itself is absolutely beautiful and the people are so friendly and welcoming. This place is just perfect as it is and think it price points are right. We would go back in flash.

This charming boutique hotel has only 6 suites. The layout of the suites as well as the entire hotel is excellent, the interior design more than fabulous. Someone has worked this out with a lot of taste and thought. The beds are very comfortable, the bed linen made of smooth cotton, the bathrooms unusually large with great amenities and all of them with a view outside. The wifi is unreliable (as everywhere in Sumba) but better than at most places. The food is really excellent and everyone, who works here does a great, dedicated job. Fantastic staff. And then there is this one thing that annoyed us tremendously. The hotel is very clairaudient. As long as people are laughing, chatting and drinking on the ground floor, it is simply impossible to get any sleep. If there's one thing I really, really dislike in a hotel, it's being prevented from sleeping by other people's noise. That had always been a reason for us not to return. My urgent advice to the management: Close the bar at 22:00 hrs. Until then everyone can drink enough, after that everyone can sleep enough.

What an incredible paradise. My wife and I spent a week at the Alamayah in the Tahik suite and couldn't have wished for a better experience. The room was super spacious and comfortable and has a private terrace overlooking the palm trees and ocean. The location is amazing, the surroundings pristine, and a number of stunning beaches all within walking distance. The best part, we were practically alone the whole time. The villa is incredible and well designed and appointed. The beautifully landscaped garden and pool are all really wonderful, but what really stood out for us were incredible staff. Each and every one of them were warm, engaging, and genuinely lovely people. The service was spot on, the food was incredible (we only really ate their Indonesian cuisine for all of our meals, but they have a great selection of Western dishes too) and the bar staff were excellent. What really makes this place special are the perfectly curated experiences offered by the hotel that stayed away from the tourist-traps, but instead, offered a glimpse into the true beauty and culture of Sumba island, all while respecting, supporting and empowering the local population. We were duly impressed by it all and would love to return again soon. I cannot recommend Alamayah highly enough!

Alamayah is the perfect retreat! We stayed for 5 nights and wish we were there longer! The property is beautiful and well maintained, we were especially impressed because of the remote location. The beaches are fabulous! Great waves and Issac is an awesome surf guide! The food was fantastic! The staff are truly what makes this place special. They arranged for a village tour for us, played with our daughter, checked-in every night to secure the next day activities and so much more! We would love to return again to this beautiful paradise.

Alamayah is incredible. From the moment you arrive, it's an oasis of tranquility. Beautiful setting, views of the palm trees, the beach and the ocean, and even more beautiful beaches just a short stroll away. Comfortable and well appointed rooms (we stayed in the Tahik suite), great food (both Western and Indonesian), nicely landscaped garden and pool, and great common areas to hang out. Well-managed activities with a keen eye for staying away from the touristy places to give you an authentic Sumba experience, respectful to the local culture. Above all, it was the incredible staff who made our stay so special! Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

My husband and I recently stayed at Alamayah and were blown away. Sumba is such a remote place and to have this caliber of hotel there was such a surprise. The staff were beyond amazing, and what was really telling was how highly they spoke of the owners, who have involved the local community in so many ways. The hotel is only 6 rooms, so it is a small place and you can choose to be on your own or chat with other guests in the lovely communal areas. We loved the stand up paddle boarding adventure as well as going to visit a local village - highly recommend! We've been telling all our friends about Alamayah and Sumba. Definitely a bucket list trip.
