Kingston Hotel

I wish there was a way to leave 0 stars. had booked a room here a few weeks ago as I was coming to Leeds for my graduation last saturday (from last year). We were due to arrive here the Friday and stay on the Sunday. On Wednesday I received a phone call of a gentlemen talking extremely quickly (with a foreign accent which made it really really difficult to understand what he was saying) telling me my booking had been cancelled and I should have received an email 3-4 weeks ago as the hotel is closed and they then put the phone down. This was literally 2 days before my graduation where every other hotel was sold out or they wanted £350+ for a night. I was absolutely distraught and disgusted in the way the ‘staff’ handled this! We received no email from ********** stating it was cancelled or anything. So my partner rang back to ask for an explanation (which is only fair) and they just said ‘oh well you should have been told 3-4 weeks ago’ funnily enough we didn’t have this booking 3-4 weeks ago. Due to this I had to miss my graduation as I had no way to get there Saturday morning. So thanks for that, there’s nothing quite like working every day for 3 years for you to miss the only day that makes it worth while.

On the plus side: good central position and on site free parking. Room looked clean but decor is tired. Marks on walls, holes in walls, handle of toilet not fixed on. The quality of sleep was not good. This is for a number of issues. The room was very hot. The walls were very thin and you could here noise from other rooms. Doors slam. A green light shining throughout the night. Outside noise. Bed was not overly comfortable and synthetic bedding. Stale smell of cigarette smoke. The house keeping did a good job The bathroom is adequate with basic toiletries and towels supplied. Kettle and basic tea coffee supplied. No local information No breakfast service and no staff in attendance in the morning to feed back to to ask to rectify problems.

This is in a prime position right opposite the University , set back from the road with adequate safe parking . The building has a grand appearance and the room we had was spacious and lovely high ceiling. BUT.... despite being listed on a B and B site they did not offer breakfast. The bedding snd towels were clean but the carpet was badly stained as were the chairs. The bathroom was reasonably clean but there was an overpowering smell of drains. The TV could not get a signal, the WiFi was erratic. The person on reception was not helpful snd very unkempt. It was quiet the nights we stayed but there were people dealing in the lane outside. There was a lack of basic amenities such as no hooks on the back of the door and bathroom door, no shelf in the bathroom to store toiletries. Only two coat hangers. We got the feeling that the proprietors did not know how a hotel should be run. How it achieved 3 stars is bizarre. With a good investor this could be very successful. The structure is good but the decor and furnishings are poor. They could easily offer a breakfast as there is plenty of space but unless they were cleaner I would be reluctant to eat anything!

We arrived on a Saturday and the hotel seemed very quiet which was nice. The staff were very helpful and smiley. The rooms were really nice and clean, simple but perfect for a couple of nights in the city. The shower and bathroom as a whole was nice and modern aswell as all the facilities like the flat screen telly and the beds. All round a great experience and even better for the price it was. Expected a lot less so was satisfied 100%!

Re covid-19 staff did not wear face masks, even when closer than 2m to customers and with no ventilation. For example a staff member came to my room not wearing a mask. The room and towels were dirty. Room was extremely hot and unable to turn off radiator. Tap only let out boiling hot water. Plus point was central location and availability of free parking.

I booked a room last week for my husband with the understanding that refund would be made if I cancelled within a certain time period, which I did owing to a change of circumstances. I emailed the hotel and have not received any response, I've since emailed again & phoned with no reply, but have been debited the cost of the room. Dreadful customer service, and dishonest practice. Really disappointing service
