Casa Palacete 1822

Ronda District Granada|0.74km from city center
My adult son and I just returned from a week's holiday in southern Spain, during which we stayed at this lovely accommodation. We have only good things to say about it. The staff emailed promptly when we booked our rooms, responded via email to every question, and generally gave us a very warm and hospitable welcome. Amparo greeted us at the door, helped my son move our luggage indoors, then went with me to the underground private carpark. I was especially frazzled, as I'd driven from Cordoba that morning, and was now on single-track cobbled roads in one of the old sections of town, but Amparo made me feel at ease and reassured me as I parked the car. As we checked in, I noticed the reception/sitting area looked cosy and comfortable. The staircase to the rooms is sweeping and grand, but the owner has also installed a wonderful little elevator - perfect for those whose knees protest too much after a long day's walk. Amparo even made us a mid-afternoon coffee and got a croissant - very welcome after a missed lunch (and directly before our hammam experience!). Amparo, David, and Fatima were uniformly excellent: warm, welcoming, informative, and helpful. Despite our late request, they managed to book us a private tour of the Alhambra and Generalife with an excellent guide (Santiago) - one of the many highlights of our short stay in Granada. Monica in the cafe at breakfast was superb - I'm not great with Spanish, but she was very patient with me. Breakfast was excellent also - neither of us could get one of all that was offered, the offerings were so plentiful. The croissants are enormous!! The tomato spread and olive oil were excellent on the toast, and of course, the hams and cheeses were divine. As were the fresh-made juices, coffee, and teas we tried. Another component of breakfast was a sweet bread or pastry, but neither of us could make it to that part, the earlier portions were so monumental! The accommodations were absolutely delightful. It's clear the owner who purchased the building and turned it into this fantastic 6-room hotel put her heart and soul into the design and decoration of all the rooms and public areas. I stayed in the Italian room while my son stayed in the Chinese room. Both were gorgeous representations of those cultures. The Italian room has a balconette, sofa and chair, ornamental fireplace, desk/workspace, washer, kettle, and mini-refrigerator in the sitting area, A bidet accompanies the toilet in the bathroom, and the bath is indeed a bath and shower combination - delightful for a soak when you've tired yourself out walking all over this charming town!! The bathrobe was comfortable, as was the bed. Ample closet and drawer space is provided in the bedroom. The Chinese room is smaller but also has comfortable bedding, clothing storage space (hanging), a bidet on the toilet, a kettle, an ornamental fireplace, as well as a shower. A side note: the wifi worked spectacularly well - I run my own business, so must wo
Pension San Joaquin

Pension San Joaquin

Centro Granada|0.44km from city center
We were two same-sex guests who had intentionally booked a double bed room. When we called by phone to notify us of our arrival time, the person who attended us asked us if the request for a double bed was correct, and then told us that at that time he would be eating... but that we should still call when we were at the door. , which would come to open us. When we got to the door we knocked... and the same person with whom we had spoken hours before told us (in a tone that showed annoyance): ”Mhmm... It's just that... now we're eating.” AND SILENCE. Despite the fact that we had already agreed on that arrival time, we asked him again if it was possible to check-in, and with little conviction he said yes, and that we should wait for him to come and attend to us. While we were checking in, he asked us again if the request for a double bed was correct, and we said yes again. After a few days of travel in another destination we had to stay there again, and when we called the day before to ask if we could check-in at a specific time... the same person told us (again, in a tone that showed annoyance): ”Well, that will depend on whether the room was used the night before”. AND SILENCE. Being asked if your request for a double bed is intentional and not a mistake is, without a doubt, an invasion of privacy and a questioning of it. Even if we were wrong... the correct way to handle it should have been to ignore the matter and expect ourselves as guests to ask for a change. If the guests had been a man and a woman, this assumption of error would not have taken place. On the other hand, making guests feel guilty for having arrived at lunchtime, or for wanting to know in advance if their room will be available at this or that time, is clearly anti-commercial. It is clear that we were staying in a pension and not in a five-star hotel, but kindness does not cost anything and it is always a better strategy than unpleasant treatment. Finally, to record that in one of the rooms the central heating did not work, and in the other it worked the first night but then not. Only room temperature air was coming out (like a fan) as if they didn't turn on the heat from the front desk during business hours this feature couldn't be used.

Fuente del Lobo Glamping & Bungalows - Adults Only

Vega de Granada|9.7km from city center

Ronda District Granada|0.18km from Altas Cumbres
My family LOVES Granada and any time we go to Spain, we stay at the Hotel Luna because it is normally a fantastic hotel for families. It has two pools and very comfortable beds. This time it did not live up to our expectations. When we checked in the room, the bathtub was filled with dead flies and there were flies all over the walls and ceiling. We called down to reception and their solution was to send someone up with insecticide to kill them. The cleaning crew came, sprayed a bunch of chemicals and said they would be back in a half hour to clean it again. We were told to hang out in the room until they came back. An hour later No one came. We called down to reception and they finally sent up the cleaning crew about an hour and a half later. We missed dinner with our family because we could not shower and all of us had terrible headaches from the chemicals. When we woke up in the morning, the flies were back. These were small flies that were entering through the pipes. We stayed for two nights and had to kill about 20 flies each time we needed to use the bathroom. We complained 5 times at reception and were never offered a new room or even a complimentary breakfast or parking for the inconvenience. Their reaction was simply “I’m sorry.” I do not believe we will be staying at Hotel Luna during future visits. They need an exterminator ASAP and they need to learn how to treat their customers.

Bahia Tropical

Bahia Tropical

Velilla-Taramay|5.27km from Puerto del Suspiro del Moro
We went to Bahia Tropical in Almuñécar in August 2022 and just booked it again so we can explore this beautiful place further. Upon our research we expected the place to be good, but it exceeded our expectations by far! An authentic spanish experience not the crazy party style which we were runing away from, but family orientated, relaxed,  stress free. The wast majority of the guests were spanish people and that added to our experience of the local culture and atmosphere. Elegant hotel, very clean, relaxed, good pool and across the road from the beach. Before we arrived we emailed the hotel making some enquiries and Christine replied promptly answering all our questions. Most of the reception staff were friendly and polite, the only thing I would sugest would be to offer better information regarding bus service (bus stop just outside hotel) as we found it a bit complicated and  difficult to understand the time table from the website. Breakfast ticked all the boxes (cooked and european); the fruit , the cheese and freshly cooked waffles were a favourite. Plenty of choice for dinner too (buffet style). Table cloth would enhance the presentation. Daily organised activities in the pool and outside (outlined beside reception). You can ask for towels for the pool for a €20 returnable deposit and have them changed every day. The water pollo was mixed adults and children which felt a bit unsafe as some adults took the game far too serious. One of the life guards was very helpful and good with all the children-Manu, keeping them both entertained and safe;  one of the entertainers-Flavia helped us with translations and explained how some of the activities worked. Cleaners were fabulous,  restaurant staff helpful and patient. The best staff memeber was by far Juan Carlos- managed the pool bookings (you must book your sun lounge every day for the morning session 10am-2pm or/and the afternoon session 4pm-8pm; therr is nol use of the pool between 2-4 when siesta is observed +). Juan Carlos was extremely curteous, professional and helpful with everything we needed during our stay. We hope he will be there again this year, as it made our stay so much more enjoyable! Bahia and Almuñécar- a Spanish gem!

Hotel El Mirador

Stayed at this hotel on a Travel Department ”Highlights of Andalucia” Tour. Would recommend they seek somewhere else as there are significant issues especially with the food. The offerings gave the impression that the hotel was working on a low budget, the food was of a poor quality and limited choice. Once it was gone, it was gone! There was little evidence of food being replenished and some of the dishes were inedible: a stringy beef stew one evening and a revolting pumpkin soup another. Very, very disappointing, the worst food I have tasted on a Travel Department tour. Surly woman on reception who rarely smiled; a real shame as the hotel itself is spotless and comfortable. Too remote, would suggest Travel Department look at alternative locations in future.

You could not find a better situated Hotel in the centre of Granada. We initially had a problem with one of the rooms a we had requested a twin bedded room through our agent but apparently this was not confirmed so they had booked us into a double. The receptionist was so helpful and after a discussion arranged for us to view the rooms still available before we agreed to taking the most suitable. The problem was overcome because all the twin bedded rooms were already booked we took a double into which they put an extra single bed although we had to pay extra. Throughout our stay all the staff were so helpful and attentive, no request was too difficult. If we ever return to Granada we would not hesitate to stay again. There were still Covid restrictions in place (June 2022) so there were no brochures or pamphlets displayed, but the receptionists were all very helpful in answering any questions about facilities in the hotel and about Granada itself - where bus stops were for different buses, cafe's restaurants etc. The breakfast in the hotel was not a buffet (Covid) restrictions) but was waiter service, the menu having a good selection - try the toast with avocado and tomato!

Stayed for 2 nights on a room only basis. Spotlessly clean and very friendly staff. Rooms have a good mini fridge, and there is a kitchen next to Reception with a kettle, microwave, cutlery and crockery. Bus stop outside goes to the Alhambra for €1.40. Good selection of bars outside the hotel, and about a 10 minute stroll to the Cathedral, or Bib Rambla all on the flat. At the start of the narrow road to the hotel is a roundabout. Here is the Marquis’s sister hotel - great for breakfast. Scrambled eggs, bread, coffee and a large bowl of fruit & yogurt will set you up for the day for under €10. Just around the corner you can catch the C32 bus to Albaicin for €1.40. Lovely views going up a very steep climb. Get out at St Nicolas Square at the top. There are a couple of cafés next to the square where you can enjoy a coffee or beer, with the most amazing views of the Alhambra, then catch the bus or walk downhill (about 20 mins) back into the centre. We were worried about driving and parking in Granada, so we parked up in a little town outside of Granada, called El Fargue (coming in from Murcia), and caught the N8 bus in. Cost €1.40, and travels down the only main road through every hour, just after the hour, to Jardines del Triunfo, which is the other end of the main Gran Via de Colon - a 15 min flat stroll from the hotel, or a 5 min taxi ride. N8 bus returns to El Fargue from the same place at half past the hour. Saved the stress and expense of driving and parking in the City. Very successful. We will certainly do it again, and we will also stay at the Marquis Urban again.

We stayed at the Hotel Universal as we wanted to visit the Alhambra Palace and Granada. The hotel is very centrally located. We were within walking distance to all of the places we wanted to visit. The reception is warm and engaging. We were given information about where to eat, where to walk for the best views of the city, what time to get to the Alhambra palace for. We had already purchased our tickets to the palace but the receptionist offered to print the email off for me so we had a paper ticket to take to the gate. That was going above and beyond- excellent customer service. The room itself was very large with a queen sized bed, wardrobes, writing desk, bedside tables, safe, trouser press, mini bar (it was empty but you could keep your own items in there if you wished) The ensuite bathroom was modern and pristine. The entire hotel was pristine. The 6th floor has a cafeteria where you can buy breakfast for a very reasonable rate. We had fresh coffee and the most amazing croissants. We paid so little for our room. I was very impressed and would have no problem in recommending the hotel to others.

The breakfast is rich, freshly squeezed orange juice is very good, the hotel staff is warm! We are three people, booked in Ctrip, have arranged an extra bed when arriving at the hotel, very satisfied, the room is large, the suitcase can be tiled! The hotel is very close to the high-speed exit and there is an underground car park that is very safe. We went to the city and the Alhambra for a taxi. The hotel can call the car because the road in Granada is very narrow. We are not very confident that we drive. This hotel receives tours. Consider dinner at the lobby bar or in the lobby restaurant. The service is especially good, the staff is also very good at English, and the paella is delicious!

This historical building is quite unique, even from the moment you enter the special entrance door. It’s a quaint hotel, and is very conveniently located (although the street was a little loud in the morning). We were only here for one night, but the staff was helpful and friendly. Our room had to have been one of the largest as it was huge! I think it may have been the Serena de Amarillos room. The bathroom was also enormous, although it did not have a shower, just a tub. Even though we didn’t use the toiletries provided as we had our own, Gar Arnat provided more than I’ve ever seen in a hotel before which is a nice touch. There was a refrigerator with included water which was great. There was also plenty of room to sit and have a glass of wine at night, and everything was very clean. We did have an issue with the air conditioner that night, and I talked to the gentleman at the desk. He came to look at it and just said it was because it was such a large room that it wasn’t keeping up. By the middle of the night however, it did get quite chilly. They even have a “wish tree” in the main lobby. They provide hanging tags you can write on and hang on the tree. I would recommend a stay here if you visit Granada.
