Bit of a gem. Comfortable room located in central Hackney, a short walk from train connections and shops on your doorstep, as well as Hackney Empire. Cheaper than nearby Travelodge and Prem Inn and nicer! Friendly welcome (go in via the bar) and all you need for a central London stay: comfortable bed, kettle with tea / coffee, clean bathroom with products and wifi. TV in room, though didn't use it. Pret round the corner for easy breakfast. Also, 20% off at the bar when you stay.

We popped into The Old Ship Inn for a quick drink but left annoyed and empty-handed. Parking is “controlled” and you must register your car—but the console location is not stated on any of the many signs! I wasted time hunting for it, worried about getting a ticket. Inside, I was skipped in the bar queue twice. When I explained I just needed help, the barman brushed me off and served others first, saying I could wait. Slow service, dismissive attitude, zero customer care. We walked out and went to The Bun Penny instead—friendly staff, quick service, easy parking and a far better atmosphere. Only as we were leaving The Old Ship did I finally spot the parking console by the main entrance. If you value your time, your car, and decent service—go elsewhere.

Went out for a meal together with family, placed order at the bar for food and drinks. Food arrived at the table, mine was missing a few bits and not very hot, waitress was very understanding and polite. My meal came back just after my family was finishing there's and still two bits missing. Feel sorry for the staff, A proper MAN ager would of came over, apologies rather than act like a big baby.

We stayed at the Old Ship Inn as we were going to a concert nearby at the MOTH Club. We arrived about 2PM and decided to have lunch before checking in. We both had the Chef’s Roast (a special they gives you the best of the beef, pork and chicken dishes being served) with a pale ale each. The portions were generous and came with a little gravy boat to top up our plates. Everything was delicious — my only regret was being too full for dessert! Check in was a breeze and we were given a room on the first floor. It was more spacious than I was expecting, with a seating area and ample tea and coffee for us. Our room had a very comfortable double bed and a sizeable bathroom (and ample storage to hang your clothes). The room was immaculately clean and not too hot. We very much enjoyed our stay. Special shout out to the staff — everyone was really friendly and gave us a warm welcome. Thank you!

The location for The Hackney Empire could not be better, right next door. Also next door is Hackney Town Hall where the bus from Bethnall Green stops. I had travelled from Paddington via the Elizabeth line and Central Line to Bethnall Green so although I did not know the Hackney area well I did not have to spend ages wandering around trying to find The Old Ship Inn - it was a couple of minutes from the bus stop. Ideal. I arrived early but my room was ready. The extremely helpful gentleman who checked me in offered to carry my bag up to the second floor but it was not heavy - a very kind thought though much appreciated by a lady of mature years. The stairs actually were not a problem at all. The single room was clean and comfortable. I asked about food and was advised that the chef was on a break and meals would be available again from 4pm, or possibly a little earlier. While I was having a drink about 3.15pm, I was told that the chef was back and I could order, so I had half a chicken which was very nice. Everything about the place was pleasant and welcoming. The staff I met were very friendly and helpful. There is a separate locked door for hotel guests to use if the pub is closed, but I suppose it could also be useful if a guest was not comfortable going through the pub to get to their room. When I got back to my room after going to The Hackney Empire, I was surprised that it was not as hot as I had feared. The window would only part open but that was sufficient not to have to consider using a fan. The bed was very comfortable and although there was a little noise outside as the window was open, it did not bother me and I soon fell asleep. The bathroom was a reasonable size and the shower worked well. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at The Old Ship Inn and would happily stay again if in the Hackney area.

I stayed one night at the Old Ship when I went to the All Points East Festival and wanted a place to crash close by. For my purposes, the Old Ship was perfect. My single room was on the top floor and though it was small, it was bigger than most single rooms I have stayed in, in London! And the bed was really comfortable. Water in the room and nice bathroom, hot water kettle and I even tried the instant coffee which amazingly, wasn't too bad - all boxes ticked. I did not get to eat at the pub - I had planned to on my check out day but they had a private function. I did manage to have a drink late at night on my return from the festival - was quite noisy but I didn't hear any of that in my room (and boy did that drink taste good after a long day at the festival.) The staff member the following day kindly stored a small bag for me while I walked around Hackney for awhile. The overground stops nearby and there are many buses as well. I will return for sure.

Disastrous and incredibly fortunately one that could have been far worse. I've stayed @ the hotel before - really liked it and recommended it to others so when I stayed there I expected good service + experience. I arrived @ 2330 - I was held up by travel. At this time the place was shut, there was a buzzer I tried but no answer. I could not get through to anyone. I was then stranded in London past midnight with no where to stay. I hope the reader of this message understands how dangerous that is and the implications of this, especially for guests with younger families. I some how managed to find a friend to stay with @ hours of trying - others might not have the option. PLEASE CHANGE YOUR SYSTEMS!! I went to see them the next day to report the problem was greeted by a very personable staff member who was regretful but basically shrugged off the whole thing? I booked through *********** and he told me that he had no way of contacting me anyway or refunding me? I contacted *********** who told me they couldn't help either. I found an email that said checkin was open till 22:00 - that was then the excuse by both parties to dismiss me + pass the blame onto me. Ugh. So not even a refund let alone the significant extra costs I had to endure to find somewhere to stay. Disappointing, not OK but just hope this drives change so that someone isn't seriously hurt in the future by this

Well, since our last review, which we gladly removed, it's gone back to how should, (Thank you, Shannon) uber friendly helpful staff on the whole. Food looks delicious even though we've not tried it..... yet. Worth a visit, but check if there's a party booking / private party / closed to the public

**UPDATE** DISAPPOINTING. To sit there for several hours to have staff come round and then throw reserved "tiles" on the table and expect you to move at a certain time is not really acceptable. Especially after all other tables are already taken. Fine, have bookings but don't expect established customers who spend possibly £5-600 a week compared to a "party" who probably spend £2-300 A YEAR to be removed from where they're sat. Basically "thanks for your money you're being evicted:" If you don't want them sat there then explain beforehand and offer alternatives. Manners cost nothing and it's called "Common Courtesy" Or, put reserved signs on tables on opening. Apart from that its a Chilled out place and "Most" of the staff are pleasant and accommodating. Fantastic food..

Good sized room, well kitted out. Larger double room. Pleasant surroundings prior to attending a gig at the nearby Moth Club. A hotel stay got me discounted dinner and lunch in the hotel's pub, ground floor. I had a rotisserie chicken and Caesar Salad, both lovely. I'd happily stay again. The place seems to be a bit of a hidden gem.

We go here before we go to pantomime once a year. Nice atmosphere, good food. Good for families too. We had the burgers, kids had the **** chicken. Ok priced and food was quick. We booked on line before we went and we were shown to a table in the corner.

The area of Hackney isnt great. Its not on the tube line so i wouldnt go back. However this is a really nice place, with lovely staff, and comfortable rooms. Negatives are no breakfast is served and also no real air conditioning- but the pluses outweigh the minuses, and the warm welcoming staff make the difference
Response from Property: Dear Adrienne, Thank you so much for your kind feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We are hoping to see you soon again!

The noise level is insane. I think you should warn people on your website that you have loud music playing till 1am on a Friday night. Which actually didn’t go off till 1.10am. Then it carried on outside till 5am in the morning we had absolutely no sleep . We were in room 4 first floor.
Response from Property: Dear Ysane, Firstly, let me apologise for the noise and lack of sleep you experienced during your stay with us. We understand how frustrating this must have been for you. We are rooms above a pub and we try our very best to minimise the noise level in the pub below. We will look further into this matter and address it accordingly. In regards to what was going on outside in the early hours of the morning, that was not our customers, the noise was coming from one of the apartments opposite the pub, they were having a housewarming party that we knew nothing about, in this case, we can only apologise for what happened, this matter was beyond our control. Once again we are so sorry for any inconvenience caused. Regards The Old Ship Team
