Staff were polite and attentive, outside facade is beautiful. Reception, stairways, bar and restaurant are stunning with old features well preserved. However, and this is a big however, our room 025 which was supposed to be a ‘superior room’, was very much lacking anything superior. It was tiny, had a desk with mirror but no chair as no space, you sat on the corner of the bed if you wanted to use the mirror. There was a small full length wardrobe that had quite a large safe in which took up the bottom so it was not full length. The bathroom was 3 steps down next to the door, everything was ok except the shower screen was so small, the toilet and floor got soaked every time someone had a shower. The room was supposed to have air con (there were controls for it) but it didn’t work, there was some kind of air duct in the ceiling (extractor?) which was extremely noisy. There was a very large fan in the room which was large enough to inflate a hot air balloon but which was so noisy we couldn’t have it on during the night and it drowned out the TV. Probably would be fine in the autumn or winter but in the height of a heatwave, it was not fun. The TV remote didn’t work properly so couldn’t look at the guide just scroll the channels. The bed was comfy and everywhere was clean, pillows were hard but that’s personal preference. The breakfast was very tasty, lots of variety and there was plenty of it. The staff were rushed off their feet at breakfast but very polite and helpful. The toilet flush button was broken but they fixed it immediately. Beautiful hotel, staff and food, just a shame about the room.

I thought the single room would be bit bigger, but was really small for the price i paid for, was in the lower ground floor without bars in the windows so i didnt feel safe. There was no shower stall...when i had shower all floor was wet, and the mattress horrible and the bed too noisy. The next day i woke up with severe back pain because of the mattress, so avoid room 008. The breakfast was good, but i waited about 20min or more to get some fried eggs done by the kitchen staff

This was a last minute booking after an awful experience at a previous hotel. The building is beautiful and the staff organise a quick check in. I had the small single room which is below street level but for a one night stay before travelling on it was perfect as I just slept. Room is rather small which was to be expected based off photos but perfect for a solo traveller if you stay tidy. Bathroom was generously sized, clean, good water pressure and came with all the usual amenities (shampoo, conditioner etc.) the room has air conditioning that you can control the temperature of which is brilliant especially in a heat wave in London. Located extremely close to a tube station (felt like a two minute walk) where there is a Sainsbury’s and Tesco as well.

Our room was a deluxe and unfortunately only, just big enough for the bed!! Bathroom was very large for the size of the room. Considering the cost of the room we felt the size was inadequate

I stayed in this hotel 2 nights in a row, but under 2 bookings, so I experienced 2 different rooms. A single and a twin. We stayed during a heatwave this summer and the first room I stayed in was the single. It was very small, but had everything I needed, including a TV, window and AC. Unfortunately the AC was not working so the room was unbearably hot. The window was also painted shut, so there was no movement of air at all. I did ask at reception for a fan, which was brought up to me. Unfortunately it was a tower fan, which mostly moved around the hot air. That night the only way I could sleep was by dunking a towel in cold water and having it laid on top of me. The bed was comfy though, thank goodness. The second night I was staying in a twin - the room was much bigger and again, had everything we needed - including a working AC system (yay!). Beds were really comfy and amenities included bottles of water (in both room types) which was a bonus. We checked-in in advance and left our bags as we were going to a festival at Hyde Park all day. When we returned there was a long queue to get room keys and our bags. The staff on the desk (2) were really friendly, even though there were a few grumpy people in the queue before us. They weren't able to give us our bags at the time of getting the keys, so they brought the bags up to our room within 30 minutes. That was a bit of a hassle considering we had been out all day, were exhausted and just wanted to sleep, however, we understood that it was busy. We got what we paid for - perfect location for the undergrounds and Hyde Park in a beautiful building. Shame about the AC in the first room, especially considering it's a 4-star hotel, but ultimately didn't put a dampner on the weekend.

The hotel's biggest draw is the European-style decor in the lobby! The rooms are a bit small but very clean. When we first checked in, the sink in our room was a bit clogged. We contacted the front desk, and they responded promptly and moved us to a new room. It was Christmas time, and the lobby had lovely decorations like a Christmas tree, creating a wonderful atmosphere. They even provided refreshments, candies, and fresh apples, which was a nice touch! The English welcome pastries in the room were delicious. Plus, it's very close to the subway and super convenient for Hyde Park. Overall, a great stay!

Hotel presents well and has a lovely historic feel. The location is fantastic with Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens a short walk. London was experiencing a heatwave during our stay so the lobby and restaurant for breakfast were very warm and somewhat uncomfortable but our room air conditioning worked great. The room itself was fairly dated and quite small but the location made up for it. We had breakfast included which was good value for the money. I think if i was staying in London again i’f pay a bit extra and want something a bit more modern and with additional amenities like a gym but Grand Royale suited us for our short 3 night stay

I love this hotel, it is my second time staying. Fantastic location, beautiful building and the breakfast was amazing. In summer the rooms are extremely hot though. The AC does not cool the rooms. That is the only negative but in a heatwave it was very uncomfortable sleeping.
