Serendipity House

We arrived as a family to a lovely warm welcome from Caroline, she showed us to our room (room 2) We only booked for 1 night but wish we stayed another. The family room for my husband, me and 2 teenage boys was spacious enough for a couple days and not much luggage. The room and bathroom was spotless. The TV didn't work, we weren't too bothered as we were only there for 1 night, we didnt report it either (we forgot). After a wee chill in the room we explored the city which is very hilly so the B&B wouldn't be suitable for those with mobility issues. Everything we needed was close by. And we all had a comfortable night sleep. The continental breakfast was plentiful and had a range of warm pastries, cereal, fresh fruit and toast. A bit disappointed a cooked breakfast wasn't on offer even at an extra cost. The rooms were reasonably priced meaning an extra cost for a cooked breakfast would be perfectly acceptable. We would definitely stay again. And plan on it soon.

Room was cute but we didn’t have any hot water at night or in the morning. We messaged the number in the morning but never heard anything back by the time we left. The water was absolutely freezing so I wasn’t able to take a shower. I booked the room last minute and never received late check in information because we would be there after 8pm when no one was supposed to be on site.

I can’t comment on the B&B but had planned to meet 8 friends there for breakfast which they were heavily advertising on social media. Very disappointed as I called on Friday to check if you were open for breakfast for 8 people on Saturday. I was told no problem and we could just walk in. Arrived Saturday to find it closed. No sign explaining why. Landline phone ringing off either no answer and mobile being cut off each time we called. Checked Facebook - no posts re closure. Eventually someone came from across the street and said it was closed as 1 of the cookers broke - very unconvincing! Called the day before as opening hours have been erratic. That’s 8 people who won’t be back and not giving good reviews.

We stayed at Serendipity house for 4 nights due to a family bereavement. It was very convenient for us and was very centrally located in the town. Stephen was most welcoming and did his best for us. The room was spotless and the ladies who serviced the rooms could not have been more obliging. I will definitely stay here again.

The hotel is nicely positioned within walking distance of the vast majority of tourist attraction. It is just above the main Glenside area in a very quiet location. The staff and family running the hotel are very nice and helpful. Would recommend a visit

booked a family room for 2 nights & despite the property being marketed as a family run B&B, it’s more like a hostel! Self check in system is not at all secure, with the entry code for our room being the same as the code for the main entrance so anyone else staying in the property would be able to access our room. The handle to our room was also broken so we didn’t feel safe staying, particularly with children. The house is also situated in an area which didn’t seem particularly tourist friendly, although we didn’t hang around long enough to find out! We were met with an unpleasant odour of damp & animals when we walked in & the room itself was shabby to say the least. Despite the clever photography on ***********, the room was not big enough for a family & the beds had been crammed in to the space, leaving barely enough room to move around. The bathroom had a broken shower head & there were patches of mould on the walls. Needless to say we found alternative accommodation in the area & the owner hadn’t even had the courtesy to respond to my complaint/concerns about the fact that this property is grossly misrepresented on the booking platform! I would not recommend staying here, particularly with a family.

The view was amazing and the beds were comfortable, but.... The Restaurant not open, cooked breakfast not available(continental breakfast with not even one gluten free option available).No table or chair in the room, bar only open for drinks. Staff not overly friendly. We didn't even get Good Morning, jus a question: are you staying or are you going. Our room was above the kitchen so we got woken up by the noise of banging doors at 7.15 am.

Major booking sites don't say it is a B&B and show photos of a restaurant/bar at night, which gives you an impression that the restaurant is open for dinner. In reality, it's not. It's a town house, so there is no lift, and staircase is narrow.

Excellent location to avoid city center, was very quiet, small room but had everything you need, short very do-able walk to city centre, staff were all very kind and helpful, on-street parking but was not a problem getting a spot. But even better than all of that for us was the bar and patio in the back. So cozy and beautiful with a spectacular view of entire city. And at night the view is stunning with city lights.
