The hotel is Ok, yet simple. Room size is very nice, but it would be nice if it can offer more amenities (e.g., now a days many hotels have a small coffee machine, and this one hasn’t). Location is an issue not because of the hotel itself, but because it is in DTLA, which I found not so safe / nice (the hotel actually has good security measures because of this, so the hotel itself is fine, but getting to it was not a pleasant experience. Again, not the hotel’s fault at all). So if you need to stay downtown LA, location is very convenient, but if not, I’d rather stay somewhere else. It was my first time in LA, so I didn’t know this until I experienced it.

Freehand LA is the perfect place to stay if you want to be in the heart of LA (and you don’t mind sharing a room). The building, erected in 1928, has classical nouveau decor and includes valet parking. If you don’t want valet, then there are several 24 hour parking lots available. From Starbucks to Taco trucks, so many choices are only 5 minutes from the doorstep of the hotel. The rooms are clean and the staff are very friendly and accomodating! I’d recommend Freehand to anyone.

Perfect for non fussy solo traveller. Just as the pictures. Good bed clean bath. The pillow can be upgraded to a normal size. But all is worth it!

The biggest advantage of this hostel is its location in downtown, which makes it very convenient for getting around to other areas. However, being located downtown can also be a drawback. Once it gets dark at night, it’s not a good idea to walk too far outside the hostel. I’m not sure exactly where it was coming from, but I could constantly smell ********* around the hostel and near the elevators. Despite the building being old, the hostel itself was very clean. Unlike a typical hostel, it feels more like a hotel that has been converted into a hostel. There is a shared bathroom for each room, but please note that no amenities are provided at all. There is also no hair dryer. On the first floor, there is a fairly large and stylish lobby. In the basement, there is a small shared kitchen with a few tables in the same room, as well as a small room where you can work out. There are no coin-operated washers or dryers. The staff were friendly.

Ideally located in the city centre, making it very convenient. The hotel’s ground floor is beautifully designed, and for drinks, there is also a rooftop bar (with another bar directly opposite the hotel). The staff are extremely helpful. I really loved my stay.
