We are locals and have went here enough to be recognised by the staff. Although there is not usually much atmosphere here we enjoy a quiet drink. We have had a very bad experience tonight. We arrived around 9:40 on a Friday. We were served a pint. A little later we were asked if we would like another by the landlord (9:55) for last orders. We were given a second pint. The only other man there in the pub was playing very loud reels with the volume on max. My partner asked 'could you turn the volume down a little please', he did not respond, yet the landlord said (in retaliation) '10:07 only 3 minutes to drink your pint!'. We then asked if we were expected to leave due to politley asking the other client to turn the volume down. This was met with A LOT of abuse. Throughout we were very polite. We have never been treated this badly anywhere in the forest. If you are thinking of going here, the food is not good and the clinetal/landlord are hostile.

We visited as a 5 and all were really pleased with our meals, we had visited 6 months previously and had forgotten to leave a glowing review. I can highly recommend the fish and chips and the homemade pies on the special menu, the steak and ale pie was also delicious!!

After coming to this pub weekly for 8 years I can say that it’s gone way down hill. Prices have gone up, portions and quality gone down. No atmosphere as no music and freezing cold when it’s 0 degrees outside. We are welcomed by the owner who should definitely know our faces by now but comes out with the same spiel of the fantastic specials board - we know!! The ‘slaves’ as the owner calls them never ask if you want another drink during your meal but will say do you want the bill as if to rush you out! There is one lady who works behind the bar who is always lovely and will chat to you (lady who has horses). She is the only decent person who has customer service skills and actually knows who you are.

We were visiting the area from New Zealand and wanted a traditional Christmas lunch without the hassle! So we booked here, we were not disappointed we had a warm welcome, a delicious meal and very friendly service. It was very busy, but the staff were very attentive and professional. We would definitely return and would highly recommend. Thank you!

Excellent staff, Excellent Food…visited for lunch. And I’m so glad we did, what a super place. Greeted by friendly staff with a lovely setting. Dining area was quirky and comfortable. Extensive menu and specials board excellent choice of wines and local beers. Highly recommend you visit if you fancy a run out.

Beautiful place and plenty of space, slept so well I didn’t want to get out of bed! Great food for dinner and very friendly welcoming staff - highly recommended 😊 Was about to leave having missed breakfast due to meetings and the lovely lady behind the bar insisted I have one of their very tasty bacon sandwiches for breakfast on the go, which was damn tasty too

We were staying nearby in a cottage and booked a meal at the pub We did not stay in their lodgings. The reason I have given this a 3* is because when we asked for the wine list we were given a scrap of paper with just name of wine nothing else no prices or anything. When we asked how much the waitress said I think they are £6 a glass. We asked about bottles and she about £26. We cannot be the only ones asking for wine. The food was nice had no complaints with that.

Terrible welcome, rubbish service, poor food, way overpriced. The only good thing was the room was clean.. The rooms have paper thin walls, you can literally hear everything being said and done in the room next door. Old fashioned food, poorly done, breakfast £15 for rubbish. Parking is OK, but if I was you I would not park here, keep going to the next hotel, must be better than this.
