Reviews of Stanwell House

We had a lovely two nights as a couple staying in room 39. We had a couple of issues when querying the bill at checkout however these were resolved very promptly. We stayed for my husbands birthday despite ringing and asking his name prior to the booking nothing was provided for his birthday so not really understanding the prior phone call. We booked through an another operator as it was much cheaper B&B and evening meals and x2 nightly cocktails. Breakfast was excellent held in samphire both morning good choice can highly recommend their eggs Benedict. Evening meal was in samphire. Great choice however we booked a three course meal including in our stay to be advised it would be a nightly contribution if £35 that was ok we had the sharing platter for starters amazing samphire, belly bites and Hallumi fries Turbot fir main Scallops Tasted really good. Two glasses of processco £9 each Cocktails at salt around 8 choices good not pre made. Room was compacts loved decor and theme. Downside there appeared to be a mains water pipe room from ceiling to floor that constantly made noise regardless of time of day or next woken up several times from a fantastic nights sleep. Loved the bed/bedding Amazing complimentary toiletries Wish a bath robe could be provided. On entering this fantastically decorated hotel the same of local candles and diffusers “fig” we’re just amazing. An amazing stay wonderfully accommodating staff. We had a fabulous stay at the stanwell, we had a wonderful dinner in the conservatory, followed by some delicious cocktails in the bar…. Gus had fabulous knowledge and mixed us some great drinks! Zach was a great host too! Can’t recommend highly enough! We will return!

Never expected to be writing a review like the following. Stayed at this hotel a number of times, our friends have stayed on more occasions. Special occasion this time friends 70th birthday celebration. All staff fabulous, especially Amy, Dan and Maisie. Rooms fabulous. We brought our own cake which the hotel were delighted in, as it was designed as the 'actual hotel itself' We gatherered together Friday afternoon eight of us to have a slice of cake each, and order some champagne to go with it. Three champagnes were selected, and none were in stock. Finally and of course with a price increase we came to agreement on a bottle f champagne with a slight discount. As we were having such a nice celebration, we ordered another bottle where this time no doscount was offered!? At the end of this, we were presented with a bill of five pounds each ( 40.00 pounds ) as a charge because we supplied our own cake!! Outrageous. Even more outrageous as we were to find out later, no barcardi in stock! At dinner, we wanted to take some existing wine that we had bouhgt into the restaurant and buy more from the restaurant itself, but told they will charge 35.00 per bottle corkage ( we had two bottles ). Needless to say, we declined to bring our own in and furthermore refused to buy any extra bottles. So the restaurant lost out ( good business sense, or am I losing it???)The last straw, when we asked for tap water for our rooms at night, they wanted to charge 5.00 pounds , have they lost the plot??? To put this in perspective, we had x4 rooms at around a total cost of just under 1700.00. I think they need to look at their policies a little closer. was coming back in October for my wifes birthday but seriously thinking of going else where unless this hotel offers me something special due to the above.

This was a return visit for us, and once again the hotel didn’t disappoint. It’s beautifully decorated — stylish, warm and instantly welcoming. Every member of staff was fantastic, from a thoughtful pre-visit phone call to a friendly check-in and brilliant service in the Salt Bar, where they even created custom cocktails for me. The bed was incredibly comfortable — one of the best we’ve slept in! It’s also the little things like a nice warm room with the radio on to welcome you, and a little note from the person who made up your room. It doesn’t go unnoticed. Food was fresh and great quality, and the hotel is exceptionally dog friendly, which we really appreciate - a particular mention of the fact our dog was greeted by name as we arrived. Nice touch! A consistently wonderful experience and we are already planning our return stay!

Had a lovely dinner in the Samphire restaurant. Lovely scallop starter followed by a delicious venison duo. We were served by two very efficient lovely waitresses Jemima and Bethan both of whom are a real asset.

great hotel I would strongly recommend; really good service, great location, really cosy bar with very good food and the hotel is lovely. We will go back to Stanwell House hotel

Just back from a one night stay on the Autumn getaway deal, having had to delay our booking from earlier in the year. From the start the hotel was very accommodating and helpful re. rooms and changes to the booking. Hotel is in a great location and lovely building, nicely decked out for Christmas. Room was 32, overlooking the high street and very quiet. I hate mechanical noises (fans etc.) and was worried when I saw them in the middle of the hotel…but as soon as the door was closed it was silent. Even the market didn’t wake us up when setting up right outside our window. Room was a house room and nicely decorated. Bathroom was small, but it’s a Georgian building so what can you expect? Clean and good shower. Breakfast very good and the cooked order in particular. Bar is lovely and unlike other reviews we had no issues with waiting and service, even though it was busy. Would definitely return to this hotel, good effort.

Had christmas lunch at the hotel. Fantastic setting and very decorative dinning room. Staff very attentive and were there to get drinks straight away. It was nice to have a waitress who knew all the wines and availability without going to ask. Christmas menu or regular is available, both are nice. Food ordered and came in good time, very well presented and tatse fantastic. All in all a fantastic christmas meal, highly recommended.

Delicious food and amazing service by Maisy, so welcoming. I would definitely recommend, especially the Sunday roast!

Myself and my husband booked here for 1 night to celebrate our 3rd anniversary before heading over to the Isle of Wight. The hotel is beautiful, inside and out. The staff were really friendly and helpful- and that is from reception, to bar staff to breakfast waiting staff- all were great. Our room was large and overlooked the gorgeous garden. It was spotlessly clean, the bed was super comfy and nice products to use in the bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and well cooked with a great choice. We would return here in a heartbeat!

This was a great stay. We booked a loft room, had dinner and breakfast. Room was really well appointed and comfortable- felt cosy. Dinner was really great- we were wondering where to go, and because we were tired we thought we would stay. Honestly haven't had a dinner this good in a while. Try the Smoked Trout Creme Fraiche. Nice addition of a welcome cocktail in the bar. Breakfast was good. Little details of fresh milk to the room in the morning, newspapers etc. Love it- old school but exactly right. (Little details making all the difference) The reason why it was great though was the staff. Friendly, fun, professional- we could see colleagues seemed to be enjoying working together. Seems sadly rare to be welcomed and helped like this- and is the reason why we would come back. Thank you. We will recommend you. We got an autumn discount too- and it was very reasonably priced.

Lovely stay and excellent value with their autumn deal. We had a couple of nice cocktails and a fantastic cooked breakfast included. The staff are very helpful and polite.

We have just returned from a fabulous mini break at Stanwell House Hotel. My lasting memory will be of the fabulous staff and scrumptious food. Without exception every member of the team was welcoming, warm and attentive. Our personal favorite was the amazing 'Maisie' closely followed by Zac. We would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for relaxing break in the New Forest.

Coffee service needs improvement. Just returned home from meeting with my friends for coffee at Stanwell House. We were disappointed in firstly waiting ages for our coffees, then being served them lukewarm, then staff leaving the original dirty cups and saucers on the table when serving the second lot! Hmmm. At £4 a cappuccino I would have hoped for better. It’s such a lovely setting and the girls are all very apologetic but they shouldn’t have to be!
