Damp. Dirt. Stains. Dust. Moved rooms 3 times to One slightly More clean which had a wedding below it and music stopped at 1:45 . Awful. Breakfast hall was filthy. Requested a refund. Staff aware of the issue and very helpful to be fair. Spa is wonderful however

The first room we were given was filthy. Bin had not been emptied since the last guest, hairs in the bed, what looks like animal poo on the floor and under wardrobe, dead flies and food under bed, drinks stains etc not wiped from surfaces, urine on the underside of toilet seat, piece of plastic rubbish on the floor. Spoke to duty manager who said housekeeping would sort it. They made the bed. So called reception again and complained, duty manager came and gave us a new room and said he had checked this himself. The room was cleaner, but had hairs suspiciously/seemingly placed on the pillow. Toothpaste still in the sink, make up powder on the windowsill, limescale all over the shower and rusty bath where the metal studs had gone missing. We were warned to be fair that this was not a refurbished room, which is fine and can accept the rust in the bath (although it was very off putting, we didn't even use the shower in the end), however, why was the limescale build up not removed, or the toothpaste? That is a spray and wipe job. So the second room was not clean either. There was a wedding party so music was booming until around midnight, then people singing until 1.30am and then shouting in the corridors. Not exactly what you expect at a 4 star spa hotel. We couldn't close the window as it was so warm, and in the morning the towel rail was on red hot and we were unable to turn it off so the room was boiling in the morning from early on. Mattress so soft you're at risk of falling out of it! The spa itself is nice, although does attract hen parties etc so not exactly relaxing. Pretty sure there was mould on the steam room floor. We had lunch which was nice, but the barman had a sassy attitude for absolutely no reason and wasn't fond of using please and thank you. Happy to let me use a dirty tray to carry the drinks, not exactly 4 star hotel vibes. Returned to the bar after the spa to get an evening meal. Huge queue, only one barman serving who was doing his best. Once we got near the front of the queue, we were told food was no longer being served and to go to the restaurant, but we had already heard there were people waiting over an hour for their food. Reluctantly we went to the restaurant, where there was no staff member to greet you, guests just lingering with drinks in their hands waiting for someone to see them to a table etc. Didn't appear to be much food out on the tables and we weren't prepared to spend all night waiting so we left. Breakfast was ok, but again, no staff member to greet you and check your booking, so we just seated ourselves in the end. Overall - terrible. I will be emailing a complaint with the above as I want my money back for the room, which was £198!

We had a great stay at Shrigley Hall. I thought the welcome was nice. Dinner was great. The room was a bit tired, there was dust up the walls and wall paper coming away. The buffet breakfast was only ok. Overdone or not hot enough. We had a massage that was very overpriced and was a bit of a conveyor belt vibe. I certainly wouldn't recommend paying the extra £40 plus pounds to use the pool. I've been to loads of spa breaks and not experienced this being an extra when booking with the hotel and having a treatment. It was a crowded outdoor pool. Not worth the £200 plus for the spa experience.

My stay was very relaxing, we had a large room, in the manor part of the hotel. The room was clean upon arrival. We did not get any housekeeping over the four days. We had to ask for clean towels, water and toilet rolls. Staff were very helpful and friendly made you feel comfortable especially Sharon on the breakfasts. On leaving I *****ped the bed in support of the staff to find no mattress protector and a badly stained quilt. I have reported to staff. Enjoyed the area went out for walks and some meals. Last time we stayed the menu was better not much I liked on the menu. Enjoyed afternoon tea. Felt the spa was overpriced for the facilities, Enjoyed the peace and quiet which was the point for my stay. I would stay again but would check the bedding before I slept on it.

Overall grounds are amazing Rooms are dated and very old. Need a revamp. My room wasn’t clean. Someone’s socks were still on the floor next to radiator.

The hotel from the outside, lobby, bar and restaurant look nice. The corridors, bathroom and bedroom however was very dated with a very uncomfortable small bed. The staff are friendly enough but not 4*. We were put in a room at the far side of the hotel which wasn’t easy to access with all our luggage and no assistance provided. I would stay here again for 1 night on a business trip, but definitely not for a couples getaway. Ps. the seasonal vegetables is a bowl of beetroot
