We love this place! For the only pub in the area, thank god is a good one. We find it affordable, and good serving sizes. Food is always delicious. Garlic cheesy bread is my fave. Staff is always friendly both at bar and bistro. Our only little issue is we have noticed when we go on busier evenings (holidays, etc.) We noticed the serving sizes and quality suffer. We for example, had dinner there during the week, had Sweet potato fries, big bowl, crispy, fresh, so yum with sauce, cheesy bacon garlic bread, etc. Was top tier. Went on the weekend with other family, ordered the same foods.. Sweet potato fries were soggy, full of oil, and quite honestly half the portion, as in about the size of a side on a plate, not a share entree, forgot our sauce, and the girl we reminded about it seemed as though it was a major inconvenience to get what was forgotten... Cheesy bacon bread, comes in 4 pieces, our 4 pieces seemed to be cut in half from the size of 2 of the 4 pieces we had during the week. We ordered 3x slices of cheesecake. We waited 30 minutes. I asked at the bistro counter, only for the gentleman to grunt then disappear, lucky i assumed he was grabbing our desserts, as he didn't bother to say anything to me about the wait nor the fact he would get it for us... The slices were tiny! Especially for the price. Yummy, yes, but small portion. Similar happens often unfortunately, we now only go during the quiet days and avoid busier periods due to such a difference in service and quality. Its unfortunate, but i can't fault the bistro any other time.

Top pub lunch. Post mix drink very cold and refreshing. We shared two starters for lunch, so generous we couldn't finish them. Creamy garlic prawns with salad and rice, and BLAT with chicken. Salads are very fresh. Enjoyed the outlook across the river.

Don't order a pizza. Absolutely the worst most horrific over sauced pizza i have ever attempted to eat. 2nd time I tried but never again will I assault my pallet. This review must be at least 200 characters minimum but I have nothing else to add.

We have returned again. Finally with a large group of friends. The service and food couldn’t have been better. Great place. We love the back deck overlooking the Clarence river. Greg and julie in the bar were fantastic, very accommodating. All Of the meals were sensational. Steaks were sublime, I had the 300g scotch fillet with garlic prawn topper. Couldn’t fault the dish at all. 3 other raved all night about the barramundi. Some of the best they have had in aus. Our friends from NZ really liked the garlic prawns and the pasta of the day. Great work maclean hotel

The service from the bar and catering staff was appalling, they were surly and unhelpful - we felt like we were intruding on their time. The meal was disgusting - the steaks were dry and tough; the fries were stale and cold, and the salad had little effort in eye-appeal in addition to having dried tomato, cucumber and wilted lettuce. Very disappointing for the price and (lack of) quality.

Beautiful old country pub with standard front bar / sports bar + indoor and outdoor deck dining. Very popular, although from what I could gather the only pub in town. Friendly service and standard pub meal options in the food department. My wife extremely happy with the sirloin and my crumbed lamp chops were good.

Stayed nearby over new years 2022-3. We ate here most nights and tried many of the choices on the menu. All were good. The staff worked hard and were lovely and helpful. The chef was great. Worth a visit if you are around. Main meals are large but you can get smaller pizzas if needed and kids meals were great

Please, if you're going to advertise Rib Eye Fillet on the bone could you serve that & not some cheap cut of Sirloin that is about 5mm thick & full of gristle & bone. One of the worst steaks I have ever attempted to eat.

I dined here recently after looking for somewhere to have lunch. My table ordered Barramundi, Mash and Veg & Chicken Schnitzel Mash & Veg. The pub itself is nothing much to look at inside and somewhat a little tired but they have a good selection of meals and at reasonable prices. We were there right at peak lunch time and the meals came out promptly even though they were quite busy. The staff were efficient and neither rude nor friendly. The meals were of a good size for lunch and there is plenty of both indoor and outdoor dining. The outdoor dining overlooks the river which is very nice but it's a shame that the view is somewhat blocked by the rear of the hardware store next door, but there is a partial view which still made it pleasant. Overall this was a very nice meal and a relaxing stop off for lunch and I will visit again.

Decided to have an overnighter here for ol times sake whilst in the area $50 a night in a 4 bed room to myself. Stayed in the underbunk no complaints really.had an extra blanket and there was no traffic noise other then the cops hitting the siren doing a revenue raise every now and then but other then that it was very quiet..room could do with a very well earnt carpet clean and the basin had a fork left on it from the previous stay which im suprised couldve been missed tho the sheets were clean.balcony smoking area view from the front door of the room of a nice view of the main drag recently renovated bathrooms from the looks of it and was a very clean and exceptional for the stay with good bursts of hot water..coin laundry services available also there Community lounge room area was quiet my stay had a tv microwave and fridge and kettle there..fridge was packed full of new and old s**t that could do with a clean out Limited parking out the back to about 10 or so cars but open to all patrons so it is what it is.. Close to everything really beign on the main street..iga about a minutes walk down the road and some beaut fish and chip shop also which had a very enjoyable selection of food which was delicious and big sizing

Old pub in the heart of town. I booked for 3 nights and for $50 a night, I wasn't expecting The Ritz. The accommodation is on the first floor, above the bar areas, so it can be a bit noisy if you're planning an early night. My room contained two single beds, a bunk bed, ceiling fan and a sink with separate hot and cold taps (the cold didn't work). It was not airconditioned, nor were the beds fitted with electric blankets. Having said that, extra blankets were supplied and I was not cold despite the fairly cool temperatures outside. There were no wardrobes or drawers and the carpet has seen better days. The shared bathroom/toilet area has been renovated and was as good as you might expect in a motel offering private facilities (and charging considerably more). TV, microwave oven and tea/coffee making facilities were available in the guests/residents lounge area. I only ate at the pub on one occasion. The menu is fairly typical pub bistro food and reasonably priced. I enjoyed the schnitzel I ordered. Breakfast is not served at the pub, but the early-opening River Cafe across the road fills that void very well. Boys, if you're looking for a cheap, no-frills stay in Maclean, this is the place for you (but perhaps not the wife and kids).

In the middle of town. This pub had nice staff that were efficient and very Covid safe. We were checked by the staff and felt safe. The food was good quality (we had pizza and a salad) and the amenities were clean. There was a nice undercover beer garden out the back.

Absolutely loved our meal here. Both our meals (burger and steak) were delicious and perfectly cooked, as was the garlic bread. The atmosphere was great, sitting outdoors was comfortable, enjoyable, and gave us a lovely view of the river. The staff were extremely friendly and polite. Really enjoyed our time at the Maclean Hotel, would definitely return.

We ordered 2 x premium porterhouse medium rare steaks, they arrived and were extremely rare and tough, we asked for replacement meals and explained/showed them what we were given, the Neely cooked steaks were the same if not worse, have to be the worst steaks we’ve ever had, will never come back!
