Hotel Mercure Macon Bord de Saone

Took a group of wine professionals for a three night stay. Reasonable size rooms maybe slightly jaded but comfortable. Very adequate shower room and toilet. Some rooms overlook the river and there is a very nice outdoor terrace and swimming pool. Breakfast was good but could get a little busy and the evening meal options are also OK. The hotel occupies a good position just across from the riverbank and makes a good place to explore the Southern part of Burgundy. Staff were friendly and efficient and we would certainly use this hotel again if in the Maconnais.

Really nice hotel for on the way, directly by the highway. Clean & spacious rooms. Bathroom was ok, clean, with everything you need. Beds comfortable and clean. Parking big enough, in front of the hotel.

My husband and I spent one night here. Check in took a while - one man on the desk - he was quite grumpy and rude. We were given a room on the first floor but it stank of smoke (apparently it is supposed to be a non-smoking hôtel) as well as looking like the bed had been slept in.. So went back down to cue again - eventually given another room. Smaller but quieter - although if you are staying in the week beware of building work going on at the back of the hotel. The shower door did not close so water went on the floor also we were given only two tiny bottles of shower gel (luckily I bought my own). Air con in room smelt horrid and smoky so left window open. Interesting stuffed toilet roll holder from a previous guest?? - not cleaned properly! Difficult to park out front to drop off bags and I recommend you reserve parking at the hotel . We gave breakfast a miss at 13.50euros pp preferring to stop by a local cafe.
Best Western Plus Hotel DEurope et DAngleterre

This hotel looks unloved from the exterior so if you just drove past you probably wouldnt stop. However on the interior it is beautiful, plush, lots of art work and was very clean and tidy. We had a delux room with river view as requested although the windows are narrows. Even though it overlooked the main road ( where there was ample free parking) it was still very quiet. The decor of the room we would describe as a vintage feel, dark walls, artwork but very tastefully done. Just 50 yards away from the lovely town of Macon, with plentiful bars, restaurants and shops. To sit by the river directly opposite the hotel was very relaxing and we would return to this town and this hotel on future trips. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and spoke English. Dont be put off by 'Angleterre' being an after thought in the name of the hotel!

the location of the hotel is good as it's across the river and near the restaurants and shopping streets. however, i just came at a very bad time when almost the whole of shopping street was under construction ! for that google didn't have an alert and i had to drag my luggage through constructions streets. the hotel of course , had nothing to do with it. you can walk to it via the riverside street which is more enjoyable and it's just 15 minutes walk from the train station. the room i got was big enough for one. though fitting 2 luggages for 2 people would be a challenge. the bed is big enough though. it's complete with tea making facilities but there was no coffee provided. it's safe as the main door is locked at night. however there were stair steps from the lobby to the elevator which is annoying if you have a heavy luggage.

A little difficult to find, but once you're there it's relaxing, welcoming, and well isolated from the noise of the city. Swimming pool, terrace, baby, billiards, mini golf... you're in a little cocoon. everything is good there, the rooms, the restaurant and the breakfast too. We recommend more.
