Hostal Alfaro

I liked the privacy, the quiet and the complete but basic provision of all that is needed to enjoy good nights of sleep and easy morning showers. One note: would probably be good to install non-slip no skid surfaces on the bath tub floors for safer showering.

Pros - Very clean! Felt safe. Easy walk to Thyssen and Prado. Quiet. Cheap, Cons - hostal up a few floors in a tiny apartment building with an uninviting entrance and smoky stairwell. Once you get past the apartment section of the building and into the hostal, the air is fresh. Unfortunately the twin bed was foam and very uncomfortable. Also a long winding hall takes you to the room and seems like it might be hard to get out in case of fire. Loved the location but not sure I would stay again.

From start to finish, this was a great place to stay! It is located walking distance from Plaza Mayor and about a 15 minute walk to Madrid Atocha–Almudena. The real reason for the 5 stars is the amazing customer service provided by the whole staff. They are extremely professional, extremely friendly, and overall just amazing people. The room was well kept, clean, and perfect for what we needed. They are performing updates to items at the hotel, some that we even noticed during our stay, with their goal of making it the best stay possible for all of their guests. My wife and I will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Madrid!

A really nice little place in a good location. Close to a good variet of restaurants and walking distance to most tourist sites. Staff were friendly and really helpful. The room was a good size for an old building and the ace was quiet at night. Air conditioning works well.

Just arrived home from being in this hostel from 14.1. - 19.1 . The staff is very friendly and eager to help. Location is amazing,just a few minutes walking from many of the landmarks and from the "Sol" metro station. If you are looking for an reliable option ,this hostal is a good choice.

The reception area and rooms were so so clean, which was very reassuring. We arrived really early but the room was ready so we were able to check in straight away. The staff were so friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our room was basic and bathroom small but if you need a cheap room in central Madrid, this place is perfect. We would definitely stay again.

We had a poor experience because this hostal is very noisy, you hear everyone that enters the hallway (and we stayed at a far away room). The staff is very nice, but in the room there is no water or even cups. You need to ask for everything. We had a few days without hot water, and our tub was a baby size so we couldn’t fit in.
