Medina Palms
4.5/555 Reviews
We made the booking ourselves online. Cynthia was prompt and professional in responding to our emails; the hotel shuttle met us at Malindi Airport, and our room (#31) was fab. The menu was impressive and most of the meals we ordered were very good (e.g. the Gazpacho, Prawns pili pili, ice creams) but a fish curry was disappointing - the fish was rather tough. Breakfasts were excellent. Fatima, our waitress, was a joy - efficient, smart, and very helpful. Martin, who was our driver to and from excursions, also deserves as mention - as do Agnietta and Elizabeth on reception. The hotel was well laid out and the vegetation was luxuriant. There are lots of steps so if mobility is an issue ask for a ground level room. All the staff were professional and friendly - except one, the manager. He made me look up the Kiswahili word for 'miserable' (it is 'Huzini'). I never saw him greeting guests or talking to them when they checked out to ask about their stay.

Thank you team Hemingways Watamu for an amazing treat during our visit. Had the best time around, excellent meals, clean rooms, friendly staff. 30 minutes from Malindi Airport, excellent hotel transfers, perfect meal plans and delicious meals. The spa was a good plus for us. Gym lovers, you will enjoy every bit! Redemptor, Tom, Julius, Desmond at the bar all amazing. See you next time!
Lily Palm Resort

I visited this place on my first solo travel and it was AWESOME! They have a clear blue pool overlooking the beautiful blue waters of Watamu. And with them, what you see is what you get; what you see on their profiles is EXACTLY what you will see on arrival. The rooms were spacious and of importance had air conditioning and a fan too, with the heat that is there, a definite plus. Watamu is mostly populated by older Italians who stay in the hotels there permanently, and so with this the amazing and friendly stuff are more than happy to receive one of their own! Waliniambia nilipo wasili kuwa Watamu kuna utamu, na hawakudanganya ng'o! A DEFINITE on your travel to-do list!
Jacaranda Beach Resort
4.4/541 Reviews
Amazing. First of all resort is very well designed and its remarkable architecture make it a luxury but at the same time characteristic one, due to the intelligent respect of African and local ”genius loci”. Room was very spacious and I did appreciate materials and finishing, making it comfortable, but at the same time rustic, looking very ”local” but not in a kitschy way. Luxury resorts are sometimes kitsch, but that doesn't happen at Jacaranda, on the contrary giving the best example of compromise between luxury, comfort and tradition. Cuisine was excellent, with plenty of international, African and Italian choices and a very good Kenyan/Italian fusion experiment. Pastas, fish, meat, fruit, salads, dressings, everything was tasty and safe. Just desserts weren't anything special, I'd suggest to introduce some Italian traditional ice-cream. Staff was prompt and nice, all our requests have been completely satisfied. Place is great, daydream beach and fascinating excursions (never miss the safari!) within a few hours range. Must go!
