I first stayed here 19 years ago when it was around 500 RMB. Now, due to a game day and exchange rates, it's about 1000 RMB a night, so the value for money is a bit worse. The lobby and staircase have been renovated, losing some of their old-world charm. Pros: 1. Excellent security – they check everyone entering after 10 PM. 2. Great service – they took very good care of my luggage. 3. Good location.

Alright for one night. No ceiling light and the two table top lamps failed to work. Reception staff were alright. No other staff encountered. No use made of establishments bars/restaurants.

Quite good. Convenient. I feel lucky and self-aware that I can continue today, all thanks to this anchor point. Coming to this behavioral finance class, and traveling so far, feels a bit like a refugee drifting around. This place just happened to become a temporary safe haven.

Plus: under 10 minute walk to Manchester Piccadilly train station. Convenient location with bus stops right outside the hotel. Check in was really easy. Outside of hotel looks right out of an old movie, really pretty — plus the corridor on entry. See attached photos. Cons: the room is dated, expected for an old hotel. You get what you pay for I guess. The most terrible thing was the extra blanket they provided smelled really bad - like a wet carpet or dog that has dried up on its own and retained that most terrible smell. I slept without the blanket and chose to get cold rather because of that smell.

I was very disappointed with this stay. The room and overall condition of the hotel were significantly worse than the photos shown online. There were buckets and wet floor signs in the hallways due to leaks, and there was visible mould and water damage in the ceiling, which was concerning and suggests ongoing maintenance issues. The lift does not reach all floors, which meant repeatedly walking up several flights of stairs. This was made more frustrating when my key card repeatedly stopped working, requiring multiple trips back to reception to resolve. The room itself was very basic and not comparable to the listing photos, and the bathroom was not properly cleaned as I found hair in the bedding and bath/shower on arrival. Basic amenities were also lacking — no toiletries were provided or available, and staff advised me to purchase my own. The parking information was also misleading. The listing suggested parking for around £16 per day, however no instructions were provided and the hotel was unreachable when I attempted to contact them before travelling. Even Trip.com support staff were unable to reach the property, and as a result I had to arrange nearby parking myself which cost over £20 per day. Overall the stay was noisy, poorly maintained, and far below expectations for the price paid. I would not stay here again.

Basic, windowless room, clean. No issues. Fantastic staircase.

There's practically no soundproofing, but everything else was fine. The family room was spacious enough with two large beds. The location is superb, right in Manchester city center, next to Chinatown.
