Fairfield by Marriott Okayama Hiruzen Highland

Fairfield by Marriott Okayama Hiruzen Highland

📍 Hiruzen Kamitokuyama, 1385-9, Maniwa
★★★ 9.3 (52 reviews)

"Overall, the hotel was good. As always, I feel Marriott hotels are generally quite standardized. There haven't been any major changes. However, it was generally good; the cleanliness was excellent, and the service was very warm. The only downside is the somewhat remote location, which I find a little puzzling."

📍 Yubaraonsen 16, Maniwa
★★★ 5.9 (14 reviews)

"Giving it a "generally good" score is already quite high. The advertising is very effective, and it's frequented by many tour groups. However, compared to other hotels in Tangyuan Hot Spring, the actual experience was one of the worst. The facilities were outdated; the bathtub door couldn't even be opened, which is extremely rare for a hot spring hotel. Long hair left by previous guests was still on the sink. If I had other hotel options, I wouldn't stay here again."

"Hokkei rocks! The warm omotenashi spirit is everywhere. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, especially the landlady. Old-style welcome and special surprise. Rabbit-themed decor is so cute. Great fresh food, wonderful view and easy access to Sunayu open-air onsen next to river. Hotel’s onsen are wonderful too, overlooking the river and valley. Very comfortable room and bed. Staff is fluent in English. Thanks for such a memorable stay! I will return."

"There are two bedbugs in the room. The massage room is supposed to be a place for enjoyment. When you look up, there are bedbugs everywhere. Please don’t go there. This is the worst hot spring hotel experience I have ever stayed in."

"Dinner at this Japanese-style inn, which cherishes its traditional charm, was truly blissful. The first thing that caught my eye was the fried namafu (wheat gluten). The crispy, light batter gave way to a chewy, delicious flavor, and I was enveloped in happiness from the first bite. A conger eel hotpot was quietly heating up on the table, and the aroma of the broth gradually rose, turning even the wait into a pleasure. As I bit into the soft conger eel, the coolness of summer spread throughout my mouth, and it felt like my heart was melting away. The Iberian pork teppanyaki was fragrant, and the sweetness that seeped out with each bite was mellow, and the chilled chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) was so tender it melted instantly on the tongue. The colorful sashimi was as beautiful as a small painting on a plate, and I felt the bounty of the sea with every taste. And to finish off the meal, we had chestnut rice cooked with rice. The softly rising aroma had a warmth that heralded the approaching signs of autumn, and gently filled the afterglow of the meal. The open-air rooftop bath, where we could soak under the starry sky, was also exceptional, and it was a luxurious evening where we were able to relax and unwind with both the food and the hot springs."

"Hotel Ishii was able to respond sincerely. Trip.com I had a question. At 21:54 on March 26, 2026, there was a record and history of paying ¥ 5500 with PayPay credit card, but I paid ¥ 5500 locally because it was local payment. I talked with the shop staff, but it was past 17 o'clock, so I couldn't contact Rakuten. It would be nice if there was no withdrawal with a credit card, but in reality I didn't know well and the scheduled time was approaching, so I had no choice but to pay. It's about money, and I hope I want a mechanism that can be confirmed immediately. The shop staff 々 had a creepy air and couldn't spend each other comfortably."

Fairfield by Marriott Okayama Hiruzen Highland ★★★
"This is considered a very nice hotel in Japan! However, the location is extremely remote. You can drive there, but the nearest 7-Eleven is a 2-minute drive or a 19-minute walk. There aren't many shops nearby. I imagine it would be beautiful in snowy weather. The map shows there's a ski resort nearby. The rooms don't have traditional Japanese bathtubs, unlike typical Japanese hotels."

"In short, it was terrible. The environment was bad, and the service was even worse, especially those few Indian staff members—they were awful. I will definitely never choose this hotel again if I'm traveling in the area. Don't go! Oh, and there were even small scorpions on the tatami mats!"

"The staff were very helpful, and the hotel and bathrooms were very clean. The buffet meal had a wide variety of dishes, and I ended up eating too much – that's my own fault. Due to the terrain, there was nothing I could do about it, but I gave up on going to the sand bath on foot because the outside air was cold and it was raining. I'd like to visit again during a warmer season."

"We arrived in heavy rain and got soaked entering the inn from the parking lot. I wish they would allow the car to pull over to let us into the inn when it's raining heavily. The service was polite and smiling, which was nice. The room was a little far from the front desk and we had to use the stairs, so it's fine for young people but not suitable for people with bad legs or disabilities. I would recommend it for energetic people!"

"The only downside is that it's far from the sand bath. There are many indoor baths to enjoy, but most of them are low in temperature. The guy at the breakfast area has a great personality and is very easy to talk to. Also, although breakfast isn't a buffet, they serve so much food that you won't be able to finish it all."
