This is a once in a lifetime experience, a restored palazzo in the heart of Mantua, with gorgeous frescos on the ceiling and rich heritage reflecting the many vicissitudes of history on the plain of Lombardy. The work which has been put in to restore the building after a century of neglect, and the care and attention which the owning family show, is remarkable. I wasn't sure why the room had a jacuzzi, but the bed was comfortable and the feeling of eerie solitude in the silence of the night was memorable and remarkable. There is no restaurant as the hotel is small, but lots of great osteria nearby. Parking is in a multistorey a five minute walk away - be careful not to cross into the "forbidden zone" of the restricted city centre as you navigate there. All the beauties of the Gonzaga palaces are within easy walking distance, too. The owners are very communicative and friendly, and assisted our navigation by whatsapp as we arrived.
