Riad & Spa Esprit du Maroc

Fantastic weekend away in Marrakech in a perfect authentic Riad within the Medina. We booked through easyJet holidays and this included a lovely breakfast. Breads, jams, yogurt, traditional beber omelette which is egg & tomato based. Coffee and fresh orange juice. This is a beautiful small traditional Riad tuck away down an alleyway. Not the easiest to find on your first visit but the taxi driver guided us. They also picked us up from the Riad. I was a little nervous after reading reviews about not finding the hotel but honestly it was fine. We arrived late at night and the staff let us eat in the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble. We travelled with friends so had two rooms, our friends had the koutobia which was amazing, large bed, two showers & even a little upstairs. It had double doors onto the courtyard with the small swimming pool. Our room was upstairs from the fountain courtyard, again another lovely traditional room. We booked a private tour guide for the morning after arrival through the hotel so this would help us find our way around for the next few days. This was fantastic as we went to places we would never have found and he also gave us points to look for so we could find our way back to the hotel easily. We also booked a massage within the hotel. OMG it was amazing and definitely recommend. The roof terrace is an amazing place to relax and also see the hot air balloons in the mornings. If we had more time this would have been a trip to try. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We stayed just days before the Coronavirus outbreak closed the airport and there isn't much opportunity for social distancing in Marrakech! The Riad has changed ownership in the last 6 months and we wish Tomas and Valerie, the new owners, all the best as summer 2020 already looks challenging. The location in the Medina is excellent, a number of exciting restaurants within 10 mins walk (Limoni, L'Midi, Secret Garden) and the Jemaa El f'na only 10 mins walk ... if you can get there without being hijacked by a local teenager who'll take you the long way round and demand a tip for the privilege. Front of house, Hakim & Yousef are excellent, knowledgeable, really helpful and with good spoken english. Our room was comfortable, plentiful hot water, I have a bad back and the bed was excellent, but being a riad had no windows. Thank goodness no TV! The only criticism is that it can be noisy, - stone floors & walls, and with a rather loud front doorbell. The continental breakfast served in the central courtyard is adequate, breads & jams etc, eggs on request, but could be made more varied and imaginative. A very enjoyable stay, well located and very welcoming.

Honestly one of the best places I've ever stayed on holiday. The hotel is beautifully decorated and run by the best people I have met. Me and my partner were waited on hand and foot and whatever we desired they provided, whether it was taxis or whatever food we requested. The staff were all so polite and helpful and we have made some friends for life. I'd especially like to thank the owners Shahin & Mohammed for making sure we were always happy and satisfied and helping us understand the local currency. - We have left feeling like we are a part of their family. If you were thinking of heading to Marrakech then this is where you NEED to stay. If I could give it 10 starts I would. Thankyou so much! Cam & Taylor x

I stayed at this riad for three nights. I've been visiting Morocco on and off for the last twenty years and stayed in various Imperial cities and up to the border with Algeria. I didn't book this riad, someone else did and when I checked the reviews I was looking forward to staying there. I can honestly say that I don't know why the reviews state ”superb”, that wasn't my experience. The location is great, short distance to Jemaa El Fna and the breakfast is good, I enjoyed the coffee and the traditional ”M'semen”. But unfortunately this riad has failed to deliver on the basic needs of a good night sleep and an efficient drainage in the shower room (I was standing in a pool of water while showering because it didn't drain properly). I hardly slept on the first night because I was itchy, the bed was not comfortable and the mattress too thin, On the next day, I moved room but unfortunately my experience hasn't improved. The mattress once again was non existent and this time the pillows were just a sponge and didn't offer any support. Having slept in my sleeping bag I managed to get a slightly better sleep but my body was just achy and so decided to head to hammam for a scrub and a deep tissue massage. I get it this is a three star riad but still the basic of B&B is foremost a comfortable bed, a hot shower and a decent breakfast. It scored on the breakfast, hot shower and friendly staff members especially Karim. He is a nice guy doing his best. I was suppose to stay an extra night but I decided to cancel it. I personally would not recommend this place if you are like me you appreciate and need a good night sleep. Furthermore, the stairs are very narrow and steep. This place has a potential to be a ”hidden gem” with decent mattresses, good drainage and decent size towels for adults. The owner is a genuine hardworking lady but she is missing the point of the basics B&B provision.
