"Stayed here during our trip to Matsumoto and overall had a very enjoyable experience. The room was extremely clean and well maintained, which made the stay very comfortable. The price was also very fair and affordable for what you get. One small downside was that the onsen was extremely crowded during our stay, so we unfortunately couldn’t really use it properly. However, the hotel itself was pleasant overall and we appreciated the small touches, such as the free umbrellas available for guests to borrow. Overall, a clean, comfortable, and good value stay in Matsumoto."

"From the bottom of my heart I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff of the hotel. Your hard work is invaluable! Everything in the hotel is made with love and care. Each piece of furniture is in its place. Everything is harmonious and really magnificent! The service is impeccable. Soft ice-cream and welcome drinks for the guests in the lobby made our waiting for dinner enjoyable over watching a beautiful sunset there. The dinner was amazing with its delicate dishes and polite waiters. Onsen, with its outdoor bath and stunning rooms for women with floor-to-ceiling windows from where you could see the bath itself, is marvellous! I'd never felt such peaceful atmosphere in a ryokan before."

"Buena Vista was perfect from the moment we walked to the entrance. A very friendly, smartly dressed member of staff greeted us and took us to the check in desk which is in a lovely vibrant reception area. We had quite a small room with no shelves but it was comfortable and had an excellent shower. The breakfasts were in a fairly small area, which makes it feel a little crowded, but we always got a table and the food was varied. We tried the buffet one night which had nice food but it was warm rather than hot. We then tried the Chinese restaurant which was excellent - quality food, served by friendly staff for reasonable prices. This hotel is in a great location as it’s only a few minutes from the station. The staff were all excellent - professional and friendly."

"Clean and very good location : 5 minutes walk to Matsumoto Station and next to Alpico Plaza where you can shop for souvenirs/ get food at the supermarket). The reception is on the 2nd front, very adorable and can speak communicable English. In front of the reception, you can also find the amenities bar where you can help yourself (a little bit shame there is no cotton pad :( or there was out of them during my stay) The check-in and check-out are processed via machine like many other hotels, it only requires filling your name and scanningyour passport. The accommodation tax is also paid via the machine and cards are accepted. Me and my friends stayed here for two nights, an overall pleasant stay ☺️"

"I had a wonderful stay. Staff were very helpful. Excellent English spoken by Tomoko. Food was amazing— pretty much the best meals I had in Japan. Price is very reasonable considering the accommodation. I enjoyed the room, though travelers should expect it is simple and traditional. Foreign travelers should understand they are staying in a Ryokan, so some adjustment is required. Be early for everything by five minutes lol! Note that the ryokan is located a few miles away from Kamikochi park, so you have to plan your trips to the park. They operate a free shuttle to the park, but only at specific times. There is a free return shuttle but you may have to ride a bus to the spot to pick that up. The onsen was amazing. There are multiple different onsen, indoor and outdoor. It was a lovely experience."

"On the plus side: the location is magical; the ryokan style rooms are large; the three onsens are lovely - the deep bath one is the best; the service is excellent; the Japanese restaurant is first class and beautiful. On the minus side, our room needed refurbishment as do some of the common areas if Tobira is to retain its Relais & Château status; the French restaurant food is not good enough; there are not a lot of walks available nearby; and, as with many places in Japan, it is surprising that staff still do not have acceptable levels of English in places where international guests are frequent."

"Traditional onsen style Japanese hotel. Minimal English speaking but we got along just fine using a Translator App on our phone. Basic Japanese rooms with futons on the floor but the food was very good and the staff made that extra effort to make us feel welcome because of language. Good hot spring bath and on main road to Kamikochi so the buses went past regularly and not a long journey."
