You will notice that there are very few reviews on any Virtual Homes listing outside of their own website. That is because Virtual Homes Mexico is a real estate scam. They delete and repost their listings regularly on sites focused on tourists and short term travelers, like TripAdvisor and AirBnB, to hide the constant stream of reviews exposing them as a scam. Virtual Homes buys up low quality buildings, force out the Mexican tenants, and upcharge clueless tourists so you pay hotel prices to stay in a tenement. Walls and carpets were moldy and the building was so damp that staying there under 24 hours filled all our clothes and bags with a mildew smell that took a round of dry cleaning back at home to finally get out. There were stains around the toilet and it didn't appear the unit had been thoroughly cleaned prior to our arrival. The trash was not taken out the entire time we were there, so the building is full of mice and it was difficult to sleep with the smell of rotting food. When we woke up itchy and covered in what looked like little bites, we pulled off the sheets and were horrified to find that there was no mattress protector and the mattresses was covered in what appears to be urine stains. The staff who are extremely responsive on any question before you book vanish completely as soon as they get your money. We tepeatedly reached out to see if we could move to a building without mice, biting insects (we didn't see any bedbugs but waking up covered in bites, we are sure SOMETHING was in the mattresses), or even receive any type of compensation, no one responded. We ended up leaving after our first night to stay in a hotel, absorbing the cost of several hundred euros because we could not get any resolution or response. If you stay in a Virtual Homes rental, be prepared for rodents, insects, and every type of infestation. The experience really soured our experience of Mexico City. If CDMX wants people spending euros and dollars here, they need crack down on scams like Virtual Homes Mexico that prey on tourists knowing we will not have the time or knowledge while in Mexico to go to court.
