Miaoli County is located in the northwestern part of Taiwan Province. It is adjacent to Hsinchu County to the east, borders the Taiwan Strait to the west, and connects Taichung City to the south, and Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County to the north. Miaoli has an area of 1820.3149 square kilometers with a population of 565,704 people. Miaoli County is located in the north central part of the island of Taiwan, between 120.38° and 121.17° E and 24.18° and 24.45°N.
The north and northeast sides of Miaoli County are adjacent to Hsinchu County, and the south and southeast sides are bordered by Taichung County with Da'an River and Snow Mountain Range located in between them. The easternmost point is the Dabajian Mountain; the westernmost point is located in the Fangli Coast of Yuanli Township; the southernmost point is the southern end of Neiwan in Zhuolan Township; the northernmost point is the north end of Qiding in Zhu'nan Township; the center point is around the Fenglin Village, Shitan Township.
The county is about 64 kilometers wide from east to west, about 50 kilometers from north to south, and has an area of 1820.31 square kilometers. There are more mountains than plains in the territory. Since it was constantly eroded by various rivers, the terrain was gradually cut the hills and terraces that exist today. The terrain can be roughly divided into four categories: plains, hills, terraces, and mountains. Miaoli County has a subtropical monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 21.0°C, an average monthly maximum temperature of 28.8°C, and a minimum monthly average temperature of 14.8°C.
