I honestly don't understand how the hotel owner decided this is a 5-star property. It's a very good 3-star hotel with an incredibly amazing reef.
Let's start with the positives:
- The spectacular reef, which was the main reason we chose this hotel.
- Excellent sun loungers.
- Beautiful and well-maintained grounds. Absolutely stunning!
- Nice furniture in the room.
- Friendly hotel staff.
- Decent food, but nothing to rave about. The best part was the Filipino mango pancakes!
- There were very few other guests besides us, which was a pleasant surprise. It felt very secluded.
Now for the negatives:
- A terribly squeaky old mattress.
- Food takes an incredibly long time to prepare, even if you order it in advance.
- The bathroom felt like something out of a sanatorium; I won't even mention the shower gel and shampoo. They were the cheapest possible products (I had my own, so it wasn't a big deal for me, but why market yourself as 5-star?).
- A broken hairdryer that I had to hold together with my hand so it wouldn't collapse during drying.
And the cherry on top: my legs were covered in bed bug bites, which apparently live in the mattress. This happened on the second night; I initially thought they were mosquito bites. It happened again on the third night. After returning home, I showed the countless bites to a doctor, who confirmed they were bed bug bites. Moreover, I read reviews on Google, and people have complained about this before. This likely means the problem hasn't been fixed. Please pay attention to room P1.
Overall, it's not a bad hotel for a stop in Moalboal, especially considering the top-notch reef.
The owner needs to do some cosmetic renovations, replace the old stickers, the dreadful containers in the bathroom, and change the curtains. That would make a significant difference to its appearance, as the beauty of the grounds makes you wish for the same in the room.
