Hotel du Grand Lac Excelsior

The hotel itself looks absolutely beautiful downstairs. Has the most gorgeous views and from the bedroom I had the best view. Unfortunate accident with the sheets though, chocolate or something similar on the bed sheet under the duvet and had to change bedding myself on my birthday but the hotel manager was amazing and kindly compensated us for this. The balloon additional wasn’t unfortunately worth 25 but was okay. The rooms could do with updating to match the gorgeous hotel itself. Mentions a spa but it is not a full spa as no hot tub.

Fantastic hotel with unbelievable views in a beautiful location. Staff were very helpful. The lounges and restaurants were lovely. It has an amazing indoor swimming pool. The absolute highlight of booking a room in this hotel are the views from your balcony. Absolutely stunning.

The hotel has fabulous unobstructed views of the lake. The decor is now slightly dated. However, it is clean and well kept. What will make me return is the staff. So helpful and welcoming at reception and in the restaurant. The waiter even helped me with my car when I couldn't get it started. Food and breakfast also excellent. We will stay there again when we return to Montreux.

A clean room and a picturesque view of the lake. Hotel swimming pool and sauna at one's disposal. Short walk (or bus) from the city centre. Attentive and polite staff. The bathroom could do with a little modernisation but all facilities worked perfectly.

We did a 1 night stopover here when driving back from Italy to England, the hotel is very well placed for the town, we managed to park right outside, the staff were all very friendly and helpful, the party piece of this hotel is its views, they are simply spectacular, it’s located right on the lakes edge, we only had breakfast in the hotel and that was very nice, great selection and great quality. The only downside to this hotel is its tired, but in a way it adds to it charm, it’s almost like stepping back in time. All that aside its views outweigh that, would stay again 100%.

Love this place. Kind and helpful reception and staff. The room and bathroom were lacking in tables to put your things and your suitcase , and would have been nice if the fridge worked … But for the money it is always a pleasure. I would go back surely

Arrived Christmas Eve and stayed until NYE. Fabulous views and location. Great staff very helpful and friendly. Room was cleaned every day and sheets changed midweek. Plenty of parking spaces. Beautiful lakeside walk into shops and restaurants. Highly recommend.

We spent one night at the hotel, mainly attracted by the offer a spa/gym - and these were both nice, i.e., an indoor 25-meter-pool and a well-equipped gym (caveat: the bicycle was very close to a radiator which itself made you sweat). What we additionally liked were a very good breakfast (they manually prepare you espresso, cappuccino, etc.) choice, the staff at the reception and breakfast (some of the latter may want to crack a smile from time to time ..), and the excellent view from our room on the lake and the mountains. On the flipside, the interior design both of corridors and our room were outdated to say the least. One could argue this is 'old chic' of the eighties and then I would counter that the prices should be adapted to the eighties. Value for money was limited. It starts with the small things such as no water-cooler in the pool/sauna area, no beauty products in the room (there was just the same blue liquid at the washbasin, which btw was full of cracks, and the bathtub), and the paint coming off from the wall in the bedroom). How this is rated as a 4-star-hotel in Switzerland, no idea - and I have been to some 4- and 3-star hotels which were in a different league. A bug thank you to the staff - Happy New Year.

Lovely hotel with spacious, clean and tidy rooms, beautifully decorated and the location was wonderful too. The bed was pretty big and very comfy, big room with a gorgeous view of the lake and Alps! The staff were very friendly and pleasant. Breakfast was good with lot of varieties. Could not fault anything except for the facility of not having a kettle in the room to make tea/coffee which we are used to having in other hotels.
