First the good points (credit where it's due). The room was very comfortable, and the meal in the restaurant excellent, and good value. Ireland is expensive for accommodation, and the Canalside B&B is no exception. The biggest problem about this place is the lack of sleep you may experience if the upstairs function rooms are in use. The night we stayed there were two parties, one of which (an 18th) was directly next door to our bedroom. Although we were informed about it on our arrival, no prior warning was given that would have allowed us to cancel in advance. We were assured that the party would be over by midnight (it wasn't) and the noise of cleaners in the bar below continued until roughly 3 a.m! Having complained to the manager, she said she would refund half of our payment (she didn't). We had paid 243.50 Euro for two rooms for one night - and we were actually refunded a paltry 50 Euro. Hot breakfasts are not available until 11 a.m. and the supposed DIY Continental Breakfast was virtually non-existent to start with. We had to search out a member of staff to replenish the self-service cupboards and fridge before we could eat anything. A helpful young man in overalls who was painting benches outside was the only member of staff to be seen before 10 a.m. The bar and restaurant are great - the B&B is an absolute disaster.

Booked to stay here 5 months in advance of a Wedding we were attending in a nearby hotel. Tried calling a number of times in the days leading up to our booking, but phone was never answered and messages not responded to. Got a call on the morning of our booking to confirm we were still arriving so thought all was good. But no, got another call an hour later while on the way to say they had over booked! Only redeeming factor was that a lovely girl by the name of Emma, arranged somewhere else for us to stay, albeit inconveniently located a number kms away. Speaking to someone local to the area, apparently this is a regular occurrencewith this particular establishment. Very disappointing.

3 very spacious double rooms. Ours was the suite and has shower and a bath. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. B&B is located upstairs in the Auld Shebeen bar by Lock 27. Toiletries are provided and towels. Very helpful staff here.
