Arrived to the hotel finding chaos on the streets, cars parked everywhere, cars manoeuvring everywhere, people milling about for no reason I could see. Gave the impression of being unsafe and caution needed. I eventually parked in the Tiergarage (18euro/24hrs) as felt it unsafe anywhere else.
Upon arrival, the hotel reception was in chaos! I guess a rebuild going on and no discernible reception desk clearly visible. Looking around, could see self-checkin stations. I tried several of the small terminal selbst-checkin online stations but was unable to checkin. It says it didn't recognise my booking reference number! In the mean time, lots of people hanging around the reception area for no reason I could see?! I asked at the bar for someone in authority, said there was a small reception area around the corner. I saw a single unfinished, unfurnished desk with a single guy and a laptop standing next to it, no seats, nothing! Upon approaching, he said he was the reception. He checked me in from his laptop which worked fine.
The staff at the hotel were OK but utterly overwhelmed. They are clearly understaffed and felt they do their best under the circumstances during the retrofit. (I hope it is a retrofit, otherwise it is no way to run a hotel....!) My guess is the hotel is trying to move to an online system only to save money but i don't think it is a wise idea in this area so close to a major airport where people have questions and needs.
The rooms were fine, large spacious, clean. Plenty of pillows and warm, comfortable. Blackout curtains a plus. An oasis of calm from the entrance and check-in procedures. Wifi was fine to work from.
Breakfast was a free-for-all, rudimentary and chaotic! Took coffee, fresh croissant and cereal although it was an effort to find fresh milk. Everything else unappealing.
Location is good for the airport, which was my main reason for being there. Only 20mins drive away but caution, the roads around are extremely busy, so give yourself a more time if driving and dropping off etc.
I travel extensively up to 100 days / year for over 30yrs, globally. I will not be staying here again.
