Rooms were terrible, the bar and staff were friendly, breakfast was very good but the rooms took me back to my prison days.

This hotel is close to the Train Station in Morpeth and central for so much else. We (we being me and my 12 year old daughter) booked very late and didn't arrive until gone 9.00 pm, in desperate need of some tlc on a night when the temperatures were sub zero. The warm greeting we received immediately made us pleased to have booked here. Because it was so last minute, there was a bit of juggling to get us a room that best suited our needs. They did. Our room (12) was very basically decorated and furnished. But it was exactly what we asked if it was possible to get.I suspect the room is getting ready for a refurb and that's why it had no pictures or wee extra touches. We didn't need the wee touches. We were happy with big immaculately clean room, bed each, heating on, powerful shower and tea and coffee facilities in the room. I was really happy to be able to get a warming rum in the cosy bar as a nightcap. Took it to the room, but under different circumstances would have been happy to sit in there of an evening. We slept well. Breakfast was good. The service was welcoming and I genuinely felt they were willing to (and did) go that extra mile to make sure we had everything we wanted. Had to hang around a lot the next day whilst making new arrangements to return home to Scotland. Again we were made to feel welcome as their guests. I went a wee wander into town. I don't know the area at all. Can I recommend that just round the corner is a Tourist Information centre that also has a HUGE gift shop with over 80 outlets selling local arts and crafts. Beautiful place, was so impressed. Back in the hotel I finally had the opportunity to appreciate what a beautiful building with stunning original features the Waterford Lodge is. It does seem to be suffering a bit from. COVID hangover in terms of some work in progress... ....I can only speak from our personal experience which was a positive one, especially the friendly, professional and canny staff.

We booked a couple of nights away through ***********. And booked this hotel due to it being close to the town. What a let down we got there about 4.30. We wasn't taken to our room, just told where it was, the pictures of the rooms looked really nice. We was in room 17, which had the 4 poster bed in it. Looked nice was a bit chilly as the heating wasn't on. Had a drink the radiator started to warm up, so went for a meal in the bar. Food was quite good. But when we went back to the room the radiator was red hot but no heat in the room. Tried the shower, no hot water. Went to tell the staff was told well it's a old building it takes time. Anyway we was taken to room 14, she tried the shower only to find it was broken. Took us to room 16 which was lovely and warm and the shower also worked. The bed was clean and comfortable. Next day hubby was going to have a shower, no hot water at all. Heating engineers were in the building, but after they had been there was no heating, went out for a lovely meal in the town. Room was freezing when we got back ended up in bed by 9.30 just to keep warm. Wish we had seen the reviews as we would not have booked. And since seeing the reviews and seeing they go back at least 10 years, looks like nothing has been done as all what we have said everyone else had also said. Won't be going back. It needs gutting and rebuilding. Would not recommend to anyone. Will also be telling ***********.

This is the worst Sunday lunch I’ve had in a long time the meat was tough vegetables awful and the service shocking a young girl more interested in looking at herself in the mirror other member chatting to themselves most of them had to remind them of my sweets which they forgot about the only good thing was the tea I would not go back here and won’t recommend it to anyone

Myself and other members of my family returned to our native Morpeth for a family occasion. It appears that there were several issues with the hotel rooms I cannot speak for other members of the family on this occasion, so I will give my personal feedback I stayed in Room#1 on a previous stay (May 2022) and, by coincidence, I was allocated this room again Apart from the fact that the curtains had been removed (not a major issue, given the roller blinds), the bathroom was the major fly in the ointment here: No hot water from the tap Shower pressure way too low Cracked plasterwork As for the breakfasts, nothing much wrong with the quality, but it appears there is a staffing issue, as we seemed to be waiting a long time to be attended to, and the coffee and hot water (for tea) soon ran out, and we had to remind the staff about this. Reception would keep people waiting for too long as well As a native of Morpeth, I dread to think what impression this creates to visitors, who must think we northerners are so backward! I think the owners of this hotel need to desperately invest in a programme of major refurbishment to make this hotel great again. After all, you have to speculate to accumulate.

If only the decor in the accommodation areas was a good as that in the bar/restaurant areas our experience and grading would have been so much better.

The hotel is in need of a coat of paint. The communal areas and room were very tired. The bar area was not very clean and tables were left uncleared long after they were vacated. I’m assuming that there wasn’t enough staff.

I live in Morpeth but needed a hotel here whilst work being done on house which gave me an insight into how the staff here welcome people to our lovely town and it’s not good. We rang the bell and waited for some long time listening to a non work conversation about someone’s wedding occurring during which occasionally it sounded as though someone was getting close. When we rang the bell again we got someone so utterly disinterested and non communicative it was spectacular. The hotel itself had a comfortable bed but the walls are damaged and paper peeling. Bathroom dirty and toilet installed so tight to the wall the seat was twisted a bit to the left presumably from people trying to use it. Shower was hot but the isolation switch for the shower is right above the bath, isn’t the right type and I think (I’m not an electrician) is within a non allowed zone. It was a necessary stay as no toilet or shower at home, however decided that was a better option than staying again.

Booked a one night stay. Room awful, dirty, in need of a total re fit. Tired peeling decor, curtains hanging off, stains and mould, dirty skirting boards, stains on walls. Breakfast service slow, tea urn cold, black pudding and hash brown not cooked, toast was warm bread. Breakfast service staff need full service training , extremely poor setup. Girl serving on tables texting from her phone then touching plates. Worst place ive ever stayed in. Have read a guest says its like Fawlty Towers, id have been happier there!
