We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the town, on-site parking, and mainly because they have a tennis court. We bring our gear and play wherever we can which helps us get exercise as we eat the delicious food in France and Italy. The superior room was on the small side, but it came with a small balcony, which helped. For two nights we could live with the small room. Bathroom in room was nice with drawers in the vanity. I appreciated the second mirror in the bedroom and KLEENEX…which doesn’t seem to exist in all European hotels! They really could give us glasses, though, rather than paper cups in the room. No coffee maker and we could not get coffee from them until breakfast was served at 8:00. When we inquired about driving into town to get coffee perhaps at a cafe which opened early, he was not helpful about any place that was open early. When this has happened in the past, all other hotels were able to give us coffee as they were sitting up the breakfast service (perhaps 30-45 minutes before service began), but this hotel was not accommodating. What put us off the most was the unfriendliness of the staff. We travel to Europe annually and are used to staying in bed and breakfasts and boutique hotels. The staff here was one of the unfriendliest. I assume it was the owner who checked us in…..I’m not sure as he never i traduced himself, nor did he ask us our names, etc, upon arrival. They put all info in digital form and when I asked a question about the pool, I was told to check the online booklet. We played tennis, and then court (no net strap) is aligned incorrectly, so one person has to look directly into the sun. We could live with that, but the pebbles all over the court made us be wary about chasing down balls. After playing one day, we asked the owner (we think) if he had a broom we could use on the court (so we could sweep away some of the pebbles). All he said was “no, sorry,”. There never was a question about why we would even want a broom! When we checked out today, I brought the key to the desk, where both owners were sitting. I handed the keys to one of them, and all he said to me was, “did you take anything from the mini-bar?” When I replied, no, he said ok. What ever happened to a host saying ,”how was your stay? Did you have a nice time?”These owners clearly didn’t want our business and maybe are so tired of tourists, that they don’t care if we return or not. We had stayed in a small family run hotel in Cadaques last week, where the owners did everything possible to welcome us and make our stay comfortable. The stay at Les Colombier w@s the opposite….but that’s fine, we won’t stay here again.
