We arrived at the Belvedere Hotel on Tuesday, September 5th. Upon arrival, we were greeted by reception. The check-in process was awkward as you had to email your booking confirmation for your stay. We were then given our room number, and when we arrived in our room, we found two broken plug sockets and only one working one, as well as no safe. The room did not feel secure as there is no lock on the balcony door and it is so close to the next door (see attached pictures). After we went to explore the surroundings and arrived back to our room and put the key in, we were greeted by our neighbours shouting at us for being ‘noisy’ with the key. This continued to happen, and we felt uncomfortable and intimidated in this situation. We spoke to reception and explained what had happened. We suggested that we either change rooms or pay to upgrade. The receptionist made us feel humiliated in regards to the situation, and we could not understand how someone ‘shouting’ would make you feel like that. We then paid €120 to upgrade at our own choice, as we could not stay in that situation. Upon arriving in our upgraded room, we found that the shower was still small and there was no stand for the shower, so you had to hold it for the length of your shower. Also, there is no holder for any toiletries in the shower, which meant having to bend each time and inhale the smell of perm solution. However, we could lock the balcony door. We are not usually ones to complain and just think of it as a base to sleep, but this time it has felt necessary. During meal times, there are occasionally no tables in the restaurant, and staff can be very slow at clearing plates and tend to stand around on their phones or eat themselves. Sometimes we put our own plates on the trolley to be washed, which we don’t mind, but we have paid for a service. Dinner service started at 6pm, at times we arrived shortly after 6pm and the food was still cold. The cooked breakfast was cold every morning, although there was a good variety of options to choose from to avoid the cooked breakfast. During lunch and dinner, there were always basic options; chips were on every day, luckily, as were nuggets, fish fingers, etc. The snack buffet consisted of sandwiches and ice cream (see attached). I am aware that meal times are close together and the hotel may not feel better if snacks are required; however, this is advertised as a snack buffet, see the picture attached, and they are failing to provide this. Praise is to be given to the lovely maintenance man, who always had a smile and was very helpful. Aside from him, there were not many welcoming staff members, and we witnessed screaming and shouting between staff in the management office and banging on the desk, which is not very professional to hear. As well as lots of staff on their phones, even when pouring drinks and having no interaction with customers. There is good free Wi-Fi in the hotel, which worked in the rooms and by the pool too. It's nice tha
