Best Hotels in Mutxamel

Hello Firstly I’d like to say don’t listen to half these bad reviews . People that say it’s in the middle of no where clearly haven’t done any research prior to booking this hotel , which absolutely baffles me. El Campello and San Juan are a 10 minute cab journey or car if you have one away. Two beautiful beaches for the family or couples to enjoy. There’s a few small shops and bars 5 minute walk from hotel if you want something different. As for the hotel , it’s been updated since we last went , rooms currently still under going refurbs , we had top floor overlooking the pool it was a stunning view every morning and a very spacious room for me and my kids and wife. We have stayed at this hotel twice before and also my parents have had apartments they bought in the bonalba complex. For me personally to not have many English there is bliss I don’t come away on holiday to see English , I like the culture of the Spanish and the fact I try to speak some to which is good. No idea why people say it’s not a clean hotel , there was a cleaner in the toilets every single morning without fail , spotless and the pool area was so clean every time we went down there. Food was a great selection we had full board , every meal we had was brilliant and the staff always stocked up when the buffet got low on food. I will say if you don’t like waiting in queues or waiting in general to be served for drinks at the bar or reception then this isn’t the place for you neither is any of Spain 😂 they are very relaxed people and they take there time and you have to respect that. Overall for me I had a fantastic 8 days got back yesterday , my kids loved it and I will give one more special mention to AMY the animation team , she is outstanding with kids I mean the best I’ve ever seen with them , she is truly gifted, made everyone feel welcome always smiling , loads of energy and she had kids around her all day they were in awe of her , my three children loved her , please show her this review whoever reads this from hotel bonalba , I forgot to say bye to her as couldn’t find her on final day ( just say to her I was the dad of Jenson and Rocco the twins ) from south London she will know who we are , she’s not back until Tuesday night I believe so maybe she could read it then I wish her the best in life ,a superb dancer too. We regularly travel to Alicante on our way to our holiday home in Almeria and thought that on this occasion we would break up the joirney with a few days in Alicante. We had a 2 night stay at Melia Hotel Alicante from 28th to 30th January which was a Christmas present from our sons. We were booked on to The Level which had been recommended to us as it is for adults only and as we had had a very stressful time in the past few months, we were very much looking forward to the peace and relaxation. However, when we arrived at the hotel we were told that The Level was actually closed because there was work being carried out. We were told we were still in a room on The Level and had in fact been upgraded to a better room but all the other amenities were closed, ie the drinks and snacks that are available all day and the breakfast room which is separate from the main hotel and therefore a lot quieter. We were told that we could still get the snacks and drinks from the bar in the hotel foyer and were given a wrist band to wear so the bar staff would know. Some of the staff didn’t seem to be very aware as to what we were entitled too but mainly the staff were very good. Although we had been upgraded to a better room, the experience was completely spoiled by workmen who started work at 8am and were using drills and jackhammers!! This work went on until early evening so we had to stay out of the room for most of the day and we’re not able to use the leisure facilities/private lounge. We looked on the hotel website whilst we were there and other sites selling rooms at the hotel and they were and still are selling rooms on The Level with no mention of it being closed. We did receive an email a week or so before saying that work was being carried out to refurbish the hotel but it was more than that, parts were practically being demolished!!!! There was also no mention that The Level was completely closed. We were extremely disappointed as it had come highly recommend to us!! We have given the hotel an average rating as we did not have the experience we had expected and paid for!

There’s a clean and smart reception area, but the reception staff weren’t very welcoming, we arrived tired and late after a delayed flight and a smile and nice greeting would have made us feel more welcome. The rooms are very spacious with a big bed which we found very comfortable. However the room lacks any facilities whatsoever and way below what we expect for a 4 star hotel. We were shocked on waking the first morning to find there are no tea and coffee facilities?! Also no iron or ironing board. Plus only one arm chair was provided even though there is ample space, so we both couldn’t sit down and relax in the room. The noise from other rooms and the street on the Friday night was horrendous, even on the 5th floor. We didn’t sleep at all. We suspect this is because weekends are much busier, the breakfast room on the Saturday morning was absolutely packed. The breakfast itself was very good for 9 euros we think it’s worth it, they offer a good selection of gluten free items (I have an allergy). But as I mention above, Saturday morning breakfast wasn’t enjoyable due to how busy it was. In fact the waitress ushered us off the table as soon as we finished our last bite (I still had some tea left to drink!) as she said there was a queue to get in. In summary, a mixed stay but too many negatives and we wouldn’t stay again.

In the small street, there is no hotel door, it is not convenient to drive, the garage is very small, the service is average

This boutique hotel is simply lovely. We did not hear a sound inside as walls so thick and no thin, creaky floorboards. We were woken one morning by the street cleaning van….but that was the council and nothing to do with hotel and obviously out of their control. The staff encountered 10/10* The location 10/10* right by everything! The breakfast 10/10* something for everyone! Fantastic rooftop with lovely views of Santa Barbara castle/fort ….we took our own wine up as not manned during the week only weekend. The airport C6 bus drops you off & picks you up for back to airport approx 3/5 minutes walk to/from hotel. The staff are so friendly, polite & helpful….best I’ve ever encountered as they were also consistent in their manner. Would also add, hotel is spotless and cleaned daily if you want your room to be….we declined that.

Hotel is well situated. Clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent buffet breakfast. Really good sized clean double bed. Only criticism in our room was that the bed barely fitted in the space and there was only a really tight space maybe 15cm between the end of the bed and the wall. We managed but an elderly couple or someone with poorer mobility would struggle.

Communication was difficult with very little English spoken. I could find no British TV channels, nor are there any coffee/tea facilities in the room and only the very bare minimum toiletries. Nothing on the balcony other than 2 chairs and table which can be used to dry washing. On a positive note the hotel was very clean but being extremely basic for the money - plus a 20min ride away from the middle of Alicante - I would not visit again.
