We arrived to Pelican Bay after a wonderful 5 night stay in Tourlos area of mykonos. We had reviewed many hotels near the beach area of Platis Gialos and decided on Pelican Bay due to the hotels *********** images and Instagram images of their nice modern boutique style bathrooms and bed, furnishings etc. We had booked a superior room direct via email. When we arrived, we were told that we had a free upgrade to VIP room- the room was spacious with a nice balcony area, but the room decor and bathroom were very dated, in need of a major refurb. PLEASE CHECK what you are booking if you book this hotel. We were very disappointed it felt like false advertisement but the hotel manager did not care at all, I requested a refund and I would go away to another hotel but he declined stating it was too late to cancel, he offered an upgrade to the room we thought we had already booked for an additional €150 per night. I declined this out of principle, and tried our best to enjoy our time. This is in no way a 4-Star boutique hotel. Very dated furnishing in their standard and superior rooms, poor quality breakfast consisting of longlife bread products, batch cooked frozen hotdog sausage and potato wedges (yes for breakfast), UHT milk, concentrated carton juices and very disappointing instant coffee from a machine. All of which was free vend, nobody to greet you in the morning. How difficult is it in 2023 to provide fresh coffee and fresh juice? My wife did not eat breakfast at all during the stay. The hotel location is great and the reception staff were friendly as well as the cleaners (who were walking around with freshly made barista Fredo espresso every morning haha! ) With a small investment, this has potential to be a great hotel, worthy of 4 stars, but currently, I would rate this hotel 3 stars and would advise the hotel management to ensure they are very clear in their advertisements and communications.
