Happened to find this place while i was planning to see Magome/Tsumago Nakasendo. They picked us up at the airport right on time and were perfect for the duration of our stay. The place is like a throwback to the 70s but in pristine condition. Everything is spotless and well kept. The rooms are typical Japanese with tatamai sleeping mats and no chairs. We slept incredibly well. The meals are NOT TO BE MISSED. You must sign up for them. The dinners are sublime. The service and preparation. A truly unique and unforgettable experience. Breakfasts are a standard set but also very good. The onsen is amazing. We used the inside private ones and they were so relaxing and refreshing. Best of all is the staff. They are so warm and hospitable. They do all they can to make sure your visit is great. I couldn’t be happier with the decision to stay there.

We stayed with two families, four people. We found out about Naegi Castle on our way from Nakatsugawa and decided to stop by. It's a 20-minute drive from Naegi Castle (about a 30-minute drive from downtown Nakatsugawa). On the day we arrived, they offered a free welcome drink until 5:00 PM, so we toasted with draft beer right away. This was fantastic. In addition to the large public baths for men and women (with open-air baths), there were four family baths (one of which was an open-air family bath), allowing us to fully enjoy the hot springs. Dinner was served in a private room separate from our rooms, allowing us to relax and enjoy a luxurious meal. For dinner, we enjoyed grilled sweetfish, Hida beef steak, and a sumptuous unaju (grilled eel on rice), even though it was just before the Day of the Ox. Our room attendant, a native of Nepal, spoke fluent Japanese (there were also Asian staff at the front desk who spoke excellent Japanese). They even took photos of both families, making for a wonderful keepsake. Breakfast was also plentiful and filling. We'd definitely like to stay here again.

The Japanese-style inn had a great dinner and a very relaxing onsen (hot spring). However, you absolutely need to hire a car to get here, otherwise it's really inconvenient. Overall, the hotel price, including two meals, is very good value.
