I absolutely loved my stay at Apartment Sanjo! The location allowed easy access to the JR station and main attractions so I could conveniently take day-trips to both Uji and Kyoto while also having the freedom to visit the Nara temples and other gems I so adore. A private room, toilet, and shower was important to me while searching for a place, and the price while I was there was an excellent deal for the quality. I stayed 6 nights and felt at home in this cozy little apartment space! Some of the rooms may be slightly different, but I was in Double Room 201, which had a red-orange color theme, a lovely window up by the lofted bed, and the most comfy mattress I've ever experienced. Most Japanese beds are a bit too firm for me, but this one was perfect for my back. The only downside is that if your neighbors are noisy, you can hear everything. One morning, a family's teenage/young adult son was having a loud melt-down either in the hallway or next door, while another night, a man was talking loudly on the phone in another room, but if other guests are inconsiderate, it's really not the fault of the owners or staff. Since the place is unstaffed (self check-in and check-out, no room service/daily cleaning), there was no authority around to hold other guests accountable. That's the tradeoff. Overall, this was my fourth visit to Nara (also came in 2016, 2018, and 2019, staying at different places) and I would definitely book Apartment Sanjo again if/when I return!
