We enjoyed this classic location in a quiet neighborhood. It showcases what Natchez really is all about - the history and the charm. The innkeepers are kind and helpful. It was a pleasure to meet them and stay at their B&B. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and quiet with the exception of some passing traffic (we were in Aunt Clara’s cottage, which is closer to a thru-street). The area is quite walkable and flat. It’s close enough to the town center and the river to easily reach in about 20 minutes’ time. Good exercise in a lovely setting. Food is ok. The hosts went the extra mile to accommodate our special dietstyle, and we really appreciate that. We recommend this B&B as a nice place to stay and enjoy Natchez.

Cozy, clean rooms greet you and bath is spotlessly clean with a heated floor which is a real treat; It’s nice to wake up to the smell of breakfast cooking and coffee brewing; the only reason we wouldn’t give the last star on rating is it’s our opinion that the mattress needs an upgrade.

Firstly the people of natchez are amazing . Really friendly. The 3 guest houses are beautiful and the hosts are fantastic. The reason of 4 stars and not five is we found the facilities in the suite were a bit lacking. I understand the building is old but feel new carpet , a coat of paint and most importantly a new bathroom with decent water pressure is needed.

Beautiful, beautiful house in a lovely quiet street in Natchez. Owners and staff really nice, helpful, and accommodating, Beautiful room (the Gallery Suite), even a balcony overlooking the street complete with rocking chairs. Small touches like coffee provided in the morning, soft drinks whenever needed and even a white noise machine by your bed (if you need it) are nice touches that add to your stay. Breakfast was down the road in Aunt Clara's and was delicious and different everyday. Ten minutes into town and there are a few restaurants and bars, most of which are really good (we didn't find a bad one). Its a definite yes to stay here at the Devereux Shields House.. and Natchez is lovely as well, especially if you are looking for a break from the big cities!

Friendly staff. Pleasant rooms and great suggestions for dinner and a tour. We were able to check in and get to know about the area. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and our server Becky was very friendly. The innkeepers were very friendly and helpful!!

My husband and I stayed for two nights in a room in the home next to the main inn. Our room (the Roberts room) was on the second floor. It was very clean and had a very large, well-appointed bathroom. The only negative about our room whatsoever was that the bed pillows were so soft they were almost flat. We did not ask for other pillows, and they may have accommodated us if we had. The room had a ceiling fan, which we need to sleep comfortably, and lots of closet space. Parking was conveniently off-street, which we appreciated. As other reviewers have mentioned, breakfast is served a few houses down and across the street in Clara’s Cottage, which the innkeepers also own. The short walk was not a problem for us. It was not raining. We enjoyed sitting with and talking to the other guests. We found the breakfast to be disappointing—although Becky and Charlotte were trying very hard to make it as good as they could. I got the feeling they were either short-staffed or had new staff that wasn’t able to assist fully yet. The fruit appeared to be from those giant jars of mixed fruit you get at Costco or Sam’s. The blueberry bread was cut super thin and strangely toasted, and the egg dish was dry. Other reviewers have complimented the breakfast, so maybe we were there on an off morning. We did not go back the second morning and found a good breakfast restaurant nearby.

I chose to stay at this B and B because of the great reviews people had written about the owners' hospitality and its fabulous location. Both were unacceptable. There was little concern for guests and their comfort. After three days, I had to ask for my trash cans to be emptied. Upon arrival I was greeted by the owner with an attitude of annoyance. It is not conveniently located. A walk to center of town is over one mile. There are many other places to stay in Natchez which should be on everyone's bucket list.
Response from Property: We apologize this single traveler’s expectations were not met and he/she did not enjoy our celebrated & memorable Natchez experience. This is inexplicable as all of our staff typically place great attention to our guests and for our hospitality. We did recently change some of our staff and our training may not made an imprint as yet. I apologize for any discomfort this guest experienced, as October is typically our busiest month. Truly we are but a ½ mile from Natchez Town-center, usually easy walking in good weather among wonderfully enjoyable historic Natchez. As world-travelers, we can attest our Devereaux Shields House BnB and historic Natchez are worthy of being on your bucked-list. We encourage travelers to come and enjoy our 20-years of BnB experience and over 500 5-star history of good-hearted guest reviews and Historic Natchez. Established by French colonists in 1716, Natchez is one of the oldest and most important European settlements in the lower Mississippi River Valley. Heed the many, rather than the one. My husband and I stayed here for the weekend and it was wonderful. There was a glitch with our reservation but Angela handled everything exceptionally and got us taken care of. The service was great, room very nice and clean. The bed was very comfortable. We can’t wait to come back! Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Response from Property: Thanks for the very complimenting review. We, at Devereaux Shields pride ourselves on giving our guests a wonderful and enjoyable experience. Looking forward to seeing you agin soon. Ron, Eleanor, and Angela

There are many nice Bed & Breakfasts in Natchez. We recommend you stay in one of those rather than the Devereaux Shields House We had an excellent dinner at The Castle. There are many beautiful antebellum homes to tour during your stay. Longwood is especially interesting.

We paid in full for our elopement weekend at Devereaux Shields House. We arrived the night before and decided to change the location of our actual ceremony and photos. The owner found out, and CALLED the other location to attempt to have them cancel on us. She was angry that we were not using her property. We paid her in full and were not requesting anything monetarily returned to us. She then proceeded to argue with us the morning of our wedding about it. We wanted a stress free, intimate weekend, and this was a really intrusive and out of line interaction with this property owner. Quite frankly, I am disgusted with the amount of money we paid, and how we were treated. There are far too many other lovely options in Natchez. I do not recommend this establishment whatsoever!

Hilights: Angela, the main manager was very attentive, location was fantastic, house was quaint, breakfast was awesome, fridge filled with Diet Coke and water. Negatives: staff was very noisy starting at 5:30 AM every morning making breakfast; the main cook was talking on her speaker phone to a relative during this time and sound really traveled in the house; our TV only provided one channel and the manager could not fix it; we stayed in Victoria‘s room which was directly adjacent to the administration office, and we could hear a lot of employee talking, and reservation phone calls; including an employee complaining about her paycheck; also, the shower bathtub combination was definitely from 1970 or so; the neighborhood is quite diverse economically, and I was panhandled about 3 PM in the afternoon by a larger gentleman less than a block from the house…I (age 59) was actually frightened, and held my breath as I walked past him since no one else was around.

Lovely home in Natchez, Ms. Found this B&B as part of our Select Registry membership and it lived up to our expectations. Stayed in the Elmo Room in Aunt Clara's cottage and found everything to be very nice and beyond our expectations. During the excellent breakfast, we spoke with someone who was staying at the main house (Bost House) and noted how much they enjoyed that as well. Staff was great, with excellent suggestions on dinner while we were in town. Highly recommend.

Our second time staying here, and we're so pleased that this charming, family-run B&B hasn't lost a step. This was the perfect romantic getaway back when we were newlyweds, but they were also wonderful about accommodating our 2-year-old daughter on this trip. We'll be back for sure.

We were extremely disappointed in the B&B. They have 3 homes and we stayed next door to the main house. Room was fine but breakfast was served at Aunt Clara's down the street. Breakfast was mediocre nothing creative or like pictures. Staff was very pleasant. Since nothing was at our house there was no opportunity for visiting with guests or owners. Basically a hotel room was how we felt. Our housekeeper was very pleasant and accomodations were clean.
Response from Property: It is unfortunate these guests did not enjoy our Victorian properties and our customary Southern Hospitality Experience. The 3 Victorian homes 1873-1893 that comprise our BnB within ½ small block of Historic Natchez offer guests a range of choices for history, luxury, personal conveniences and price. We typically serve early morning beverage (coffee, decaf or hot water for tea, supplemented by water & sodas available 24/7) by 7am to all guests in all 3 of our homes. We offer a staff-served multi-course breakfast at our Aunt Clara’s Cottage for over 17 years, with very few comments over the brief walk to breakfast. It has allowed us to satisfy social distancing needs as well as allowing guests to connect socially as changing times have permitted. When our numbers exceed the capacity of our Aunt Clara’s Cottage Dining room, we do serve outside (weather permitting) or multiple parallel breakfasts in our Main House or Bost House. These guests stayed in our most recently restored Bost House for which we received recognition from our Natchez Historic Foundation. All our properties offer guest interior and outside common areas for their relaxation and connecting with other guests. Thank you for your kind comments about our Innkeeper Angela and supporting staff and the cleanliness of our properties. We do pride ourselves on providing a wonderful BnB Experience, well beyond that of a Hotel Experience.

We stayed for two nights, was initially one but when we saw the house it was so beautiful and the staff so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, we had coffee provided from 7am. Breakfast were traditional for the area, flavoursome and filling, .Different to what we are used to which made it all the better. We sat on the porch in the evening and took in the atmosphere. We stayed at the big house and walked to the smaller house for breakfast, which was just across the street. The beds were sooo comfy, just an amazing stay. The restaurant recommended on the Mississippi was great also. The horse and carriage ride was also great though, the reverend was busy so had Bob I think, he was great
