We had a very disappointing experience with the New Bedford Harbor Hotel. My wife and I stayed here for our wedding in the area, and a number of our wedding guests stayed there too. On the positive side, the hotel is in a great location in downtown New Bedford, near lots of good restaurants and historic sites. We also appreciated the hotel's dedicated parking lot. The bar seemed like it was going to be great for our guests to enjoy. Unfortunately, we had lots of issues. First of all, our room was not particularly clean. We found a Cheerio on the ground within the first few minutes of arrival, and there were lots of stains throughout the room. It wasn't awful, but not great. We then started to run into service issues. First, the hotel inexplicably cancelled a reservation that our family had for 3 rooms. We had called to change the reservation to the name of the people who would be staying, which the hotel said was fine. When the guests finally checked in, however, the hotel had released the rooms and there was no other availability. The hotel gave no warning and just cancelled the rooms, leaving our family members without a place to stay. We also planned to have an informal ”after party” at the hotel after our wedding. Our wedding planner had called the hotel, and they had ensured us that it would be no problem for us to show up at the hotel's bar with 50-70 guests. We asked them to reserve a space for us, but they said they had a few weddings staying in the hotel so could not reserve any space. When we showed up after the wedding, not only had the hotel booked the space for another group, but they refused to serve anyone from my wedding, even though there was plenty of space. There were probably 5-10 people beyond our group at the hotel's fairly large bar, but they still refused to serve us, for really no clear reason. The bar staff was also extremely rude to my wife and me (on our wedding night), even though we were just trying to understand why we couldn't be served. Luckily, there was a good bar in the area that welcomed us. My family is from the New Bedford area and I really wanted to like this hotel. I was really excited when it opened, with the hope that it might bring more visitors to see the area. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone coming to visit. They really need to fix their operational issues and poor management.

It is the WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. Rude, uniformed staff. I wanted the manager’s name and I don’t know if the employee genuinely didn’t know or if he just wouldn’t tell me. I needed the name of the owner or manager because they charged me for the $150 security deposit after the state my room was left in. They have a lot of nerve calling themselves a resort. My room was a smelly, dirty, broken, peeling, unsafe, moldy nightmare before I even checked in. The fridge and microwave they brag about on their website, well, my fridge didn’t work. FILTHY!!!!! The room was disgusting. The walk up to the room was disgusting. Wallpaper peeling everywhere, every square inch of carpet was either stained or very dirty. The carpet and floor in the bathroom was so dirty I didn’t take my shoes off. The shower was so disgusting, stained, peeling, mold spots… had to skip my morning shower. It also felt very UNSAFE. The lock on the door looked like it had been broken and replaced without any improvement. Extremely thin walls and windows. Heard people loudly talking in rooms near me and people walking outside of building! I checked in really late and just desperately needed somewhere to sleep. If it hadn’t been so late, I would have checked out immediately after seeing the temporary guest entrance since they are “remolding .” The hallways were filthy and stained and the wallpaper peeling was everywhere. The summary: DO NOT STAY HERE!! Disgusting, unsafe, moldy, dirty and does not have many of the amenities listed on website. False advertising.

Spent two nights here. Wouldn’t do it again if we had it to do over. House itself is lovely and there is history here. But it’s almost as if the owner is trying to make it based on the history rather than what is offered for the guests in the way of service and amenities. As I said, the house is beautiful. However, the grounds aren’t anything to write home about. The whole backyard is fenced off and hidden behind tarps because it is a disaster. It needs a lot of attention and TLC. The rooms are small as they are in a lot of older homes. And we were surprised to find that the doors to the bedrooms did not have locks on them. First and only time we’ve experienced that. They would have been large enough if there wasn’t so much furniture in them. We didn’t have room to have our two suitcases open and walk around the room but there was an old chair and a dresser with some antique porcelain-ware on it taking up space. The chair was very uncomfortable (We could feel every spring in it when we sat down and noticed the same same on some of the other furniture in the common areas of the house.) and the dresser, while a nice piece of furniture, took up space that could have been more efficiently used in a small room. The bathroom was very small also and the biggest issue was there wasn’t any place to put our toiletries. And finding a used washcloth on the floor when we checked in didn’t help with our impression of the care and attention given to cleaning measures taken between guests. Breakfast also left something to be desired. They set out a counter with pastries and fresh fruit, juice and coffee and a variety of cereals. Something was mentioned about being able to make eggs if we wanted them but we had the distance impression that doing so would be an inconvenience. WiFi was available but we found it to be intermittent in our room. The final straw for us was that we had reserved two rooms with king beds on the second floor. But after the reservation was confirmed, we had a call from the owner that he had messed up the reservations and double booked a room. So we would have to have one of our two rooms be a room with a queen bed on the third floor. It turned out that the room was more suited for Hobbits than normal size humans and for that nuisance and having to carry luggage up an extra flight of narrow and steep stairs, no offer of a discounted rate was made. Overall, just a major disappointment on several fronts which made this an overpriced and overrated experience.

This may be the nicest Fairfield Inn I have stayed in. I choose this hotel for it's close walk to the ferry. While I only have silver status with Marriott Bonvoy we were given a high room with bay view. Breakfast and coffee were good, especially the frittatas and appreciated the gluten free muffin/bagel options. We enjoyed the proximity to the Black Whale where we had a delicious dinner. We would definitely return, even though it is outside our primary loyalty program, but have a growing fondness for MB.
