Holiday Inn Express Fort Wayne-East (New Haven)

New Haven|1.78km from city center
I need time away not too far from home, so I decided on Fort Wayne. I was down to either New Haven or the location on the other side of town (Ellison Road). After calling, New Haven said the pool should be open May 28, so that’s the one I chose, despite the slightly higher rate. Due to low occupancy, I was able to check in around 11AM instead of the usual 3PM. I asked Erin about the pool, and she said it should be open the next day (May 28) at 9AM. I received my welcome points and went upstairs to drop off my luggage before heading to the city. The air conditioning was off probably to save money so I turned it on hoping the room would not be stuffy in the evening. Returning in the evening, I finally inspected the room. The size is typical of HI Expresses, with king bed and chair along with a small desk. A fridge and microwave are located near the door. TV is digital cable and has a decent selection. The room did cool off nicely. The view is of the parking lot; I am not sure, but I believe the other side faces I-469. Getting in the bed, it was fine. Next morning, I take a shower which unfortunately has the typical weak water pressure. I head down for breakfast, and it was only cold food due to what’s been going on the past few months, but even then the choice was limited. A couple of bagels, cereal, and apples and oranges, however no bananas. I believe yogurt was also a choice. There was also coffee and various juices. Better than nothing. I go down at 9AM, and the pool is still closed. I ask Erin at the desk, and the person in charge of that had just arrived. Why he didn’t start earlier and had the pool ready, I don’t know, but it was disappointing. Erin did apologize and said I could do a late checkout in case it is ready around 11, but I had to get going. I put my luggage in the car then came back to leave the key on the desk. HI Express did send the standard survey email which I did fill out. Erin responded via email again apologizing, and hoping I come back next time I am town. Fort Wayne is only two and a half hours away, so I usually don’t spend a night, but if I do, I may try either Ellison Road or another location. I don’t blame them for not offering a hot breakfast because of the state government order, but I do give them fault for the pool. The sign by the way, said it should have opened sometime in late March or early April. Probably should have updated that.
