Wingate by Wyndham Long Island City

Very bad! Second time stay in this hotel and always have some accidents happen. This time we booked room with 2 double beds, and when we arrived the hotel changes our reservation to a one bed room and gave as a tiny temporary single bed to fit our family with 4 ppl and a infant. This hotel never gives us the right room we booked! And in the super cold night in New York City with 3 kids, they always leaves us no choice but to accept their unilateral changes of our reservation! And there must be something wrong with the hotel management or the trip.com reservation system which offer us a room with higher rate and in the end make us to accept the cheaper room.

The location of hotel is 20 mins walking distance from Astoria but it's the bad side of Astoria. I was told by friend who lives in Astoria not to walk around in that area at night. However, it's convenient from subway. Therefor, if you are familiar to the NY environment, that would be OK. Separately, I stayed in the hotel for 6 days. There were different noises inside (heater) and outside (construction??). See if it's a big factor for you.

The hotel smells good and clean. The staffs are friendly and helpful.

The location is awesome, as Long Island City is just one subway stop away from Manhattan. The neighbourhood itself is interesting, because one can sense the real America just in this one tiny area: jobless African Americans mixed with hard-working Spanish immigrants and invisible middle class professionals hiding in newly constructed office towers and condominiums. The hotel, however, needs better design to make the clients feel more at ease. One example, the breakfast area has no window and looks worse than a struggling diner. Perhaps it’s designed in such a way so that secure middle class and upper middle class folks won’t choose this brand…

Hotel is nice and just a few stops via subway from manhattan. Room is clean and big. The surrounding is ok and patrolled by police most of the time. Did not encounter any issue during our stay.

I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. When I checked in at 7pm, I was given a room that was already occupied. The staff's response was indifferent, merely saying, "All the rooms are sold." This is unacceptable and unprofessional, not to mention a serious breach of privacy and security. I hope the management will address this issue appropriately, as I feel a refund is warranted for such a distressing experience.
