"Hotel 165: Newly Renovated
Problems:
- TV didnt work - could not connect to Wi-Fi - even staff could not figure it out - eventually told us they would need to replace that TV - we were also provided (after asking) free late checkout the next day as a result of the TV incident
- Toilet was flooded, bad drainage system design that causes the water to flow down a slope towards the door away from the drain
- At around 8.40am, someone just opened our door so we barricaded it shut - the only reason he didn't get in was because we had the latch locked - the manual lock had been engaged too but it seems this did not do anything. We thought we were dreaming at first but could tell that someone had tried to enter because we knew from the previous night that our door did not close properly, and we saw that the door was open when we checked. We also had had a Do Not Disturb sign put outside already. Who knows if anyone opened the door during the day? Then at 8.54 am, someone knocked our door and didn't answer when we asked who it was
- The telephone does not work and has no labels stating how to call the outside or room service. We had to call the room service from our cellphone
- Safe is very small. Given what happened with the door though, not sure that the room is safe at all. Safe could not fit a laptop
- The door peephole / door viewer was inexplicably covered up in paint so you can't see who's knocking on your door
Other gripes:
1. Reception area very small
2. Only one lift for the whole building
3. Very noisy during the day (construction)
4. Hand soap is not provided
5. There's no barrier between the shower and the toilet bowl
More on the door incident:
On the second night, the same thing happened with the door being opened at 9.04am. The only reason they could not open the door was because we barricaded it with a chair, having felt unsafe from the incident the night before. Apparently, the conclusion the reception got from the first incident was that there was a mixup in the housekeeping's system that stated that there was no one in the room. However, when we revealed that this happened a second time, the staff apologized and told us they would investigate this pattern."

"Great location, and the property is clean and well maintained. The lobby is small, and the drop-off point is oddly placed. Multiple drivers couldn’t find it, which made arrival less smooth than it should be.
Service is where things fell short. I arrived early and was willing to pay for early check-in, but was told nothing could be done. Fair if it’s policy, but no one attempted to help or escalate it. No manager stepped in despite repeated requests. It felt rigid and poorly handled.
Extending my stay was also frustrating. I was quoted three different prices at the counter. Each time I referenced my booking app rate as a top-tier member, the price increased, supposedly due to added taxes or charges. It lacked transparency and felt disorganised.
Rooms are decent for the price. Good size, clean, and consistently well maintained. Housekeeping did a solid job. Overall, the front desk experience dragged everything down. Clean rooms can only go so far when service feels this inconsistent."

"I recently stayed at Heritage Collection on KG and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The property is newly renovated, offering a fresh and modern ambiance. While the rooms are on the compact side, they are thoughtfully designed to maximize comfort.
The location is a standout—strategically positioned near Bugis and within walking distance to Sultan Mosque, making it ideal for both sightseeing and dining.
Guests should note that a SGD 200 deposit is required via credit card, and housekeeping is provided for stays of 7 nights or more. The hotel also adopts a fully digital experience, with check-in and room access managed via their mobile app.
A great option for travelers who appreciate convenience, modern design, and a seamless self-service stay."

"Although food and drinks (other than water) weren't allowed in the rooms, there was a large table and sofa in the common area, which is where my friends and I primarily hung out. The presence of a refrigerator and water dispenser was a huge plus. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive. Given the price, the breakfast included was an absolute steal. It usually consisted of kaya toast plus two or three other dishes daily. You could toast your own bread and spread jam, and coffee, tea, and milk were also provided. Breakfast was available from 8 AM to 10 AM. There was no curfew, and a staff member was always on duty to assist with anything. The location was fantastic – Merlion and Marina Bay Sands were within walking distance, as were hawker centers like Maxwell and Lau Pa Sat. We ate at hawker centers every day! The Hokkien Mee at Lau Pa Sat was so delicious that I went back every day for five days straight – highly recommend it! Bus stops were just a minute or two away, and Chinatown MRT station was about a 5-minute walk, making access super convenient! There's also a Ya Kun Kaya Toast outlet about a 4-minute walk away. Right in front, there's a laundromat where washing and drying each cost around $10. The accommodation is located behind a door in the back of a cafe that operates during the day and evening. There are three rooms on the first floor and several rooms on the second. The bathrooms are combined with the toilets. The second floor has communal showers, but each room on the first floor has its own. I highly recommend this place!!"

The deluxe single room that I book feels so lovely for my one night stay. Basic amenities such as toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and body wash were provided alongside a comb. There’s also water heater and hair dryer provided.
The bathroom is lovely as well with two shower-head and hot/cold water working well.
Anyway, thank you Sharan and Hotel Calmo Hamilton!"

"Absolutely loved this place! Unlike other high-end hotels that all seem to go for that minimalist Muji look, this one has a beautiful, refined old-world charm. With its art pieces, it feels grand but not ostentatious, exuding a very tasteful 'old money' vibe! My parents and I booked two rooms, and both had their own distinct style. Even though the first-floor room didn't have a window, the high ceiling and ample natural light prevented it from feeling at all cramped or oppressive! My mom even happily told me, 'It's so beautiful! I love it!' There was a minor leak from the sink in the first-floor room, but my mom didn't mind."

Changi International Airport is a 25-minute drive away. The non-smoking rooms are all accessible by an elevator. The front desk operates 24 hours.
"The room and toilet is very very clean. And I appreciate that there is room service every single day. The location is fantastic as well, right in the middle of Arab street. Water pressure in the shower is great 10/10. And the price is good for Singapore standards. The only thing I had issue with is how thin the walls are. We can hear whenever people close their door loudly or open their doors. Even the pipes make noise when people are using the toilet. We unfortunately have some loud neighbours during our stay. One mother who is screaming at her daughter late at night and during the day. And the usual loud guests who come back late and are opening their doors. If you can sleep through the noise with the help of ear buds, this is the perfect stay."
Set in a charming conserved building in Joo Chiat, Hotel Sakura by Venue offers a cosy stay with modern comforts including WiFi, mini fridge, and flat-screen TV. Just steps from heritage shophouses, local eateries, and vibrant streets. It’s the perfect base to explore Singapore.
"Centrally located on Joo Chiat Road, I'd highly recommend Sukara if you're planning to stay in the area. It's newly renovated, making it exceptionally clean and bright. The only downside is that the soundproofing in the rooms isn't great."

Its 115 rooms, designed by Dion & Arles, blend bold aesthetics, vibrant colors, and premium comfort. A welcoming restaurant, lively bar, and rooftop pool create a complete living space-perfect for relaxing, connecting, and making the most of Singapore.
"the reception desk staff were polite and helpful.
The bar was very nice, and the interior design was interesting and stylish. I especially liked the soft, patterned carpet inside the elevator — it felt very comfortable and left a good impression.
One downside was that the window in the room could not be opened, which made the room feel a bit dark. Also, there was no gym, but aside from that, I was satisfied with everything else.
I liked that the hair dryer was not too loud, and the location was also very convenient and pleasant.
The taxi pick-up zone was quite far from the hotel, which was difficult for me as I was carrying heavy luggage."
