We are in the IHG club and have therefore stayed at other Indigo hotels. This was our first visit to Newcastle. We got off to a bad start because when I tried to phone the hotel prior to our arrival I was put into an endless loop which didn't get anywhere. I eventually had to contact Indigo Central who had the same problem getting through. Someone from the hotel did then contact me however and apologised that there were issues with the telephone system. Not a good first impression however. The other issue we had was with the room cards which I had to have re-calibrated a total of five times in the two days we were there. We were eventually told that if we kept them in the same pocket as a mobile phone or in its vicinity this would stop the card working. This is not an issue that we recall having had elsewhere. The room was modern and comfortable, as was the bathroom. We found the mattress to be on the hard side. There were plenty of plugs, there was adequate lighting and a room safe. Tea, coffee and biscuits were provided as was a fridge with bottled water. We ate in the hotel on our first night and found the food to be very good. We had been confused that within the hotel itself there were signs referring to a Marco Pierre White restaurant, but it turned out that this had closed. The restaurant is now the Grainger. There was a good choice of self-service breakfast, and also a cooked menu. So the positives outweigh the negatives, and we would probably stay here again if we came back to Newcastle.

Leonardo Hotel Newcastle - Formerly Jurys Inn

I stayed 4 nights as part of a National Coach Holiday trip, with Bed Breakfast and Evening meal included in the package. The location of the hotel and the communal areas cannot be faulted, and all areas were very clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. The big disappointment was being told that we could not get our evening meal until 7.30pm. We had to pre book from a 3 course menu on arrival and subsequently each evening. 7.30 pm was late for a lot of us, being of a mature age! Also service was badly planned as the waiting staff came out and went round the room asking who was having which dish. This not only took a lot of time and also some people forgot what they had pre -ordered. With 3 courses to serve we did not finish until 9pm. This is not the waiting staff's fault, but bad management practice. However on the fourth night, all was chaos. two more coach parties had been booked in and there was mayhem, and a near riot in the dining room with about 160 people trying to get seated. it was after 8pm before service started, again not the fault of the staff. A lady on our table did not get her starter at all. I think she was quite relieved as Bruschetta does not consist of a lump of soggy brown bread, a roughly chopped tomato, some thick slices of onion, and the half dead and wilted salad greens which were served with most meals. No apology from the management. Breakfast was excellent. The rooms were a good size and were clean, but the bathroom was shabby, chipped bath and basin and a toilet seat that was not very secure. The beverage station did not get replenished until Thursday, and the dirty mugs did not get replaced throughout our stay. The. basin tap broke on Thursday morning, which I reported, but it did not get fixed. Can't fault the staff, but working practice and management leave a lot to be desired. Thank goodness for my fellow travellers, whose friendship and brilliant sense of humour made it all worthwhile. Also thanks to National Coach Holidays and our driver.

Copthorne Hotel Newcastle

Convenient quayside hotel, large reception with a comfortable seating area. Modern breakfast room, self service with a river view. Bedroom had a river view and comfortable, if rather dated. Fire alarm disturbed us about 1am but stopped shortly afterwards. Reception staff very friendly, they happily provided a free parking pass for friends popping to see us for a coffee.

The 4-person female dormitory has a lot of space, with separate toilets, sofas, TVs, tables and chairs, but the location is a bit quiet, so be careful when going out alone in the morning and evening

Cannot best the location!!!! Trolley push out of the doors and into the hotel ( or vice versa). No worry about taxi or transfer. Restaurant OK but suffers from the same ailment of so many…. Blinking awful coffee!!!! Also those awful mugs …. I have said before….. I have taken to bringing my own decent mug to drink out of. I ate in the bar last time - similar menu ( same prices) but no booking of a table required. Just got to put up with TV with constant noise or sport…… They let me leave my luggage while I drop off or pick up a hire car…. About 10 minutes walk away. Always my first choice.

I run a local charity helping the homeless community in Newcastle and was using this hostel as a base while I did so. However I missed checkout time due to helping out a person in need which took me longer than expected. I was banned and physically ejected with force from the premises by a member of staff; several items of my property were still in the hostel and they refused to return them to me. The police were involved and an extensive investigation was made for common assault and theft. Conveniently the CCTV footage was unconclusive and the case closed. I later discovered this member of staff was actually the DUTY manager. My attempts to make a formal complaint to the overal manager were ignored and now a duty manager who is extremelely rude and has physically assaulted guests and steals their property is now still working at this hostel. I can only assume this i because the member of staff was management and they were trying to stick together..his name was Anthony and as I am aware he still working there now to this day. I escalated this complaint to the customer relations team; whereby I was threatened with legal action in their attempt to keep me quiet and prevent me leaving these reviews...this I chose to ignore as other potential guests need to know the truth. Through my work with the homeless I have managed to meet other people who have had similar bad experiences at the hostel, one of which was actually made homeless due to the hostels. I have been told they refuse any members of the homeless community; despite them having cash, a form of ID and some who I know really well would never misbehave or cause any issue in the hostel. I even met another member of staff who was staying there full time who was now living as a homeless member in Newcastle; they had some similar bad experiences and were sacked for invalid reasons. All in all, its a shame this hostel has so much potential, if they were to change all the staff this place could really be somethng special, as the location is perfect. In conclusion I would recommend not to stay here until they consider reviewing their staffinf and policies

If it is on the front, the scenery outside the window is very good. You can see the park hill designed by famous architects. The location is very convenient. Tram bus is very convenient for walking. Choosing here is also just one stop from the train station tram. I used to stay at this hotel for one night and I feel that I can book it here, but this time I feel very average. But there are very few options in Sheffield city centre. The waiters at the front desk of the hotel are very enthusiastic and some have a cold attitude. The most unhappy thing about this trip was housekeeping. The first day was not cleaned. I didn't clean it the next day. I saw that she was very polite and she helped clean it. The woman said that she went home after more than the time, she only worked for a while. When I checked out, my diarrhea was ten minutes late, and the cleaner directly made a dissatisfied voice to me. I was really angry. I didn't complain if I didn't clean my room. The front desk said she would tell her to clean but she did not. As for seeing that ibis will compensate for the breakfast offer, this is not at all. Really the first to see such a housekeeping. Ibis is also a well-known brand. Although the overall situation did not feel very bad, but 4.6 is a bit high.

We wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary by visiting somewhere new …. We were not disappointed in the least by our choice. The moment we entered reception we were warmly greeted by Holly and she also escorted us to The Apartment suite we had booked. Fabulous room and terrace area with amazing views which set the tone for our 3 day stay. In fact, a number of staff are worth a mention from the cleaning team, breakfast staff and restaurant staff ( Lyndsey, Katy and Rachael) Thank you all for your friendly hospitality 👍👍
