The service was excellent, especially the doorman and the night staff. We had a comical exchange where he spoke Japanese and we spoke English or Chinese, but we understood each other perfectly through gestures! 😄 It's a charming, traditional Japanese-style inn with few rooms, perfect for those who seek tranquility. It's also very close to Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley), though all hotels in this small town are conveniently located for getting there. I highly recommend booking the Half Board option (HF) – the breakfast and dinner are incredibly abundant. It was my first time feeling so full from a Japanese meal (I felt bad leaving anything). The only minor drawbacks were the small bathroom and a slight issue with the toilet's water refill, which wouldn't stop. Luckily, it wasn't serious, and with two sliding doors, it didn't affect our sleep. Five-star rating!

Nice overall experience. Location extremely central and easy to get to many key places. The ryokan is clearly very used to foreigners. Overall a good experience but I was made fun of by a staff for not knowing some of the ryokan rules (I can understand Japanese but I cannot speak it well). This was the only thing that was a bit embarrassing. The breakfast and dinner were both amazing. I would highly recommend this place.

This is a beautifully traditional, Japanese-style hotel. You can tell it has been operating for many years, but it is impeccably maintained and spotlessly clean. Both breakfast and dinner were absolutely delicious and comforting. It was my American kid’s first time experiencing a traditional Japanese room, and they found it absolutely fascinating! The staff were wonderful—I accidentally left something behind, and when I called, they found it immediately and responsibly shipped it to my next hotel right away. We are incredibly grateful!

A wonderful hotel in Noboribetsu, highly recommended! Booking and check-in were very easy, and the staff explained everything clearly. We were given a printed sheet with dinner and breakfast times, as well as information about where everything was located. Dinner was amazing. You can choose one of three main dishes, and the meal itself is very generous. We spent almost an hour eating because there was so much food, and everything was delicious. After dinner, we went to the hanabi festival. It turned out that in summer Noboribetsu Onsen has a festival on certain days, where you can watch a beautiful demon show. It was really impressive! Breakfast was also excellent and very tasty. In addition to the main dishes, there is a self-service area where you can take extra food. The onsen was wonderful. At first, we wanted to try the private onsen, so we booked it in advance by email for 50 minutes. Inside, there are two baths, which was very nice, and one of them is outdoors. The public onsen has a similar setup, with both indoor and outdoor baths. Everything you might need is provided, including creams, lotions, foot massagers, and other amenities. The location is excellent: only about 15 minutes by bus from Noboribetsu Station. The bear park is also nearby, and Hell Valley is about a 10-minute walk away. The hotel is clean, pleasant, and beautifully combines modern comfort with a traditional atmosphere. We would be very happy to come back!

A boutique ryokan in noboribetsu located about 12m taxi ride from the JR station. It is quaint unlike the other bigger hotels in the region. Rooms are very spacious with tatami style futons. Onsen is a little small for the size of the hotel but it is ok as you don’t really get too many guests. The meals included are great. Service was wonderful. On my check out it was super early at 7am and the staff made me onigiris to bring along.

Food was awesome and was a great spread for both dinner and breakfast. Enjoyed the traditional ryokan experience sleeping on futons and experiencing the onsen. Would recommend :)

March 23, 2026 Three days in advance, I emailed the hotel to add king crab and steak to my booking. We had a great time at Date Jidaimura until just before closing, then took a cash-only bus to Noboribetsu Onsen Station. We arrived around 5:30 PM. Upon entering the lobby, we had to take off our shoes. The elderly gentleman at the front desk helped us check in and carried our luggage to the room, explaining the facilities along the way. We had dinner at 6:00 PM. We had to choose one dish from a few options, and we picked the local grilled fish. The fish meat was flaky white, very fragrant, and went perfectly with rice. The added steak was tender and springy, and the king crab legs had a slight briny taste, but the meat was very delicate. Coming here was mainly about soaking in the Noboribetsu hot springs and enjoying good food – a purely relaxing night. The next day, after checking out, we immediately caught the pre-booked direct Donan bus back to Sapporo. Before leaving, I bought a copper hammer charm from the Noboribetsu Onsen demon's hand at the hotel as a souvenir, haha. I also received a birthday card that the hotel had left for me in advance. It was a very satisfying hot spring birthday trip!

I had a truly wonderful stay at 滝乃家別館 玉乃湯. As a vegetarian, I deeply appreciated the thoughtful and delicious meals prepared for me — the chef is amazing and put so much care into every dish. A special thank you to Ms. Konno今野, who speaks fluent English and kindly helped me book my bus ticket to the airport. Her support made me feel safe and well taken care of throughout my trip. The hot spring baths were relaxing and beautifully maintained. Both the room service and reception staff were warm, attentive, and professional. I value sincerity and peaceful environments, and this ryokan truly made me feel understood and welcomed. I would love to return again.
