Lovely bungalow with garden and summer house. Gorgeous dark wood inside. Great curry dinner. Close to lovely Victoria Park and walkeable to tea plantations. While staying we had high tea at Hills Club, visited colonial buildings in town, visited Pedro Tea Estate and walked to a waterfall. Great service at Ferncliff. Recommended!

A lovely escape in the heart of Nuwara Eliya. Great base to explore the town, Lovers Leap and so much more. Loved lazing the garden, looking up at the tallest mountain, enjoyed the high tea and cuisine. Can't wait to return to check out the bar and walking tour they say they are starting.

This is apparently an old Governor's residence, now a hotel. When we visited, it was certainly characterful, but in bad need of a complete update. The carpets were old and stained, the windows ill- fitting and draughty and the staff scruffy, albeit helpful. The food was poor. The towels were threadbare and the whole place felt slightly damp.

We had a lovely one night stay at Ferncliff, it was just lovely and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend as a very well run ‘b&b’ type hotel but much more luxurious. Bernard in particular was fantastic, especially his cooking — we had both dinner and breakfast there. Very glad we chose this over the ‘grand hotel’ in the end.

We had a wonderful two-night stay here. The building is beautiful and atmospheric, but inside the facilities are modern and stylish. Excellent home-made food, both western and Sri Lankan. Delicious generous breakfasts. All done with wonderfully attentive and smiley service. Great location - easy 10-15 min walk into town. Would 100% recommend!

If you desire excellent hospitality and a peaceful retreat, then look no more than ferncliff bungalow! This place evokes feelings of nostalgia and provides a ‘home away from home’ feeling. Over 160 years old, this bungalow is full of character and charm, whilst having contemporary fittings. Surrounded with a rich culture and heritage, Ferncliff’s ambiance will not disappoint! We were warmly greeted by Ferncliff staff upon arrival, the hospitality afforded to us was nothing short of excellent. Special shout-out to the brilliant Roshan, who went above and beyond to cater to our specific needs. He made us feel completely taken care of, his attention to detail and consumer oriented approach made this trip very enjoyable. The food cooked by Nawartne was mouthwatering, in particular, the Sri Lankan cuisine (and this is coming from a Sri Lankan). All the other staff, and Rukshan worked together to make this trip memorable for us. Overall, Ferncliff is a fantastic place to stay if you crave the classic Sri Lankan hospitality and cozy atmosphere!

We were welcomed with hot water jugs to wash our hands in, followed by hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows. The two guys hosting us were great and really put in loads of effort to make sure we had a great stay with some really nice little touches (hot water bottles at night time as it is a little colder here than in the rest of Sri Lanka, moving tables outside so we could have breakfasts on the lawn!). The bed was extremely comfortable. We walked from the hotel to lovers leap waterfall and then back down through the tea plantation which was lovely. Highly recommend this place

A delightfully old fashioned and historic bungalow in peaceful setting. The bedroom was comfortable with lots of hot water. There is a really pretty garden with lots of fresh vegetables growing. The food was delicious and we had an open fire in the evening as it was a little chilly outside.

This is a small hotel converted from a large bungalow built in the 1830s, so it has a lot of history and this has been retained in the interior. Lovely old bedrooms, with modern bathrooms, made it very comfortable. The food is good and served in the original dining room. The bungalow is surrounded by beautiful lawns and trees and the location is fine, just up from the main town. The staff and service were great, very accommodating and friendly. Some of the decor could do with updating.
