Okinawa Hotel Guide

Okinawa is an independent island consisting of the main island and more than 100 outlying islands. It is far away from the main island of Japan, but Okinawa has maintained its traditional order and style with added influences from American culture. The islands were also influenced by China in the past, giving it the unique culture that it has today. The island's palm trees, betel nut trees, sandy beaches, and pristine waters all add beauty to the area. Okinawa Prefecture can be divided into three major areas. The most visited area for tourists is the Okinawa Archipelago, which is centered on Okinawa Island. There are two large outlying island groups far away from Okinawa Island, the Yaeyama Islands, which are centered on Ishigaki Island, and the Miyako Islands, which is centered on Miyako Island, are also the destinations popular with tourists.

The average annual temperature in Okinawa is about 23°C; the highest temperature in summer is 32°C, and the lowest temperature in winter is about 14°C. It’s usually rainy from April to June and there are many sunny days from July to September. Typhoon season in Okinawa usually lasts from August to November. Okinawa is the first area in Japan where cherry blossoms begin to blossom each year, and the blossoming season often starts as early as January. Beaches in Okinawa generally open in mid-February, so tourists who are interested in seashell collecting are able to start in as early as March. In terms of partaking in swimming and other activities on the water, the best times are generally mid-April through October. Hotels in Okinawa fill up quickly during these months.

Okinawa is distinctly different from the rest of Japan. Here, tourists can enjoy pleasant, sunny beaches and the unique Ryukyu culture. There are also multiple options for shopping and dining. Imagine a scene with emerald seawater, sea lions, and the rhythm of the shamisen…this is what many visitors look forward to when they visit Okinawa. For visitors who want to head to the Miyako or Yaeyama Islands for diving, it may be necessary to take a plane.
