Pine Cliffs Ocean Suites, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Algarve

Beautiful Location but Limited Dining Options in Spring Pine Cliffs is set in a truly spectacular location. The beach is gorgeous, and the dramatic cliffs and ocean views make the setting very special. The property itself is beautiful and well maintained, and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. Breakfast each morning was elaborate with a wide variety of options, and the staff across the resort were friendly and welcoming. The concierge team was also very helpful and responsive whenever we needed assistance. However, visiting in the spring — which the resort considers off-season — came with some disappointments. Despite the hotel having a good number of guests, only one restaurant on the property was open out of the five or six dining venues available. The restaurant that was open, Maré, also had a very limited menu and closed by 5 pm. Guests therefore missed out on enjoying fresh catch seafood options on the property and were unable to have dinner there. As a result, every evening after enjoying the beautiful sunset, guests had to rush out to nearby towns to find dinner options. For a resort of this scale and caliber, it felt like a missed opportunity and somewhat inconvenient for guests who were hoping to enjoy dining within the property. Overall, Pine Cliffs has a stunning setting, excellent staff, and a lovely breakfast, but the limited restaurant availability during our stay took away from what could otherwise have been a more relaxing resort experience.

Relaxing property overall and layout of pools and walk to beach so nicely done and beautiful. Beach not too usable if you plan to swim due to high waves except first thing in the morning but great lounging. Also, didn't care for the breakfast since I hoped for a lot of local items but it was mostly a full western breakfast. My main complaint though is Wifi which didn't work well on 2 of our laptops due to some authentication issue even though we chose Premium wifi. Despite all this, I'll definitely return!

When we arrived we had a 2 bedroom ocean suite and it stank of cigarette smoke. We have two young boys, one with asthma, so the fact it took the hotel 48 hours to move us rooms was not ideal at all. The hotel has a number of swimming pools and their policy is no balls or inflatables other than arm bands. The hotel even sells inflatables but you’re not allowed to use them. Very poor customer service, some of the staff are very rude. Needless to say, we won’t be returning and I would advise to avoid at all costs. They charge a premium for very poor service.

I have been a loyal guest at Pine Cliffs Resort I Algarve for six consecutive years and have always considered it one of the leading Marriott properties. Unfortunately, this year’s experience has been deeply disappointing. We made our reservation in March for our July holiday, well in advance, and specifically requested rooms away from those located above the restaurant due to the noise and our previous experience. These preferences were communicated clearly when we booked and 6 times during spring and summer. On arrival, we were allocated exactly the rooms we had asked not to receive. What has disappointed me even more than the room allocation has been the way the situation has been handled. Rather than acknowledging our long-standing loyalty and trying to find a reasonable solution, we have received inconsistent explanations and no meaningful effort to resolve the issue. We have asked the management for a compensation but they are totally ignorant – they just claim you have gotten what you booked, but if we knew we would never have booked. As guests who have returned year after year and spent a considerable amount of money at this resort, we expected our clearly stated preferences to be taken seriously, especially when booking several months in advance. Loyalty should count for something – however not at Pine Cliff. This experience has left us feeling that repeat guests are not valued as much as they should be. It is a shame because the resort itself is beautiful, but excellent hotels are defined not only by their facilities but by how they treat loyal customers when problems arise. But at Pine Cliff the reception says one thing and management something else. This problem could have been easily solved, but management is looking more at “the book of rules” – than making loyal customers feel appreciated. I sincerely hope management reviews how guest preferences and repeat customers are handled, as this experience has seriously affected our confidence in returning to Pine Cliff – I would also recommend others to think before they book a room at Pine Cliff – because since these are privately owned apartments you will just get what they have to offer, sometimes good and sometimes bad. Is this a correct member of “leading hotels of the world”. I don´t think so anymore. I am looking for a new luxury place at Algarve, so if anyone knows a place with good sports facilities, good accommodation and service - please let me know, thank you. Best regards Michael

Overall Impression Given the consistently high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and overall comfort, it is difficult to understand why the hotel’s review scores are not higher. While it may not appeal to those seeking a lively, entertainment-led resort, it delivers exactly what it promises: a refined, peaceful, and well-managed stay. From arrival through to departure, the hotel felt calm, spacious, and professionally run. Communal areas are modern and well presented, and the atmosphere is quietly confident rather than busy or commercial. Rooms The bedrooms are comfortable, well proportioned, and thoughtfully equipped with the usual amenities, including an iron, safe, and toiletries. The bed was particularly comfortable and contributed to a very good night’s sleep. The television offers a solid selection of English, Arabic, and European channels. Housekeeping standards were consistently high throughout our stay. Dining We ate at several of the on-site restaurants, including breakfast, and enjoyed every meal. Food quality was consistently good, and service was efficient without feeling rushed. The hotel also recommended A Ruína, a traditional fish restaurant located at Praia dos Pescadores. This proved to be an excellent recommendation, offering high-quality seafood in a fantastic beachfront setting and is well worth a visit. In addition, a number of restaurants, a bar/pub, and a supermarket are located directly opposite the resort entrance. These are easily walkable even from the furthest points of the resort, providing convenient off-site dining options. Spa and Swimming Pools The hotel features two indoor swimming pools alongside well-appointed spa facilities. The adults-only spa opens from 10:00am and is located in the Ocean Suites area. This spa is particularly worth visiting; during our visits it was exceptionally quiet, and we had it entirely to ourselves each time, which made for a very relaxing experience. It is worth noting that swimming caps are required for female guests in the indoor family pool. This requirement does not apply in the adults-only spa pool. No explanation was provided for the difference, but guests may wish to be aware of this in advance. Facilities and Grounds The hotel grounds are extensive, beautifully maintained, and extremely well manicured, creating a strong sense of space and privacy across the resort. A dedicated children’s arcade room is located a short distance from, and within clear line of sight of, the main restaurant and garden area. This makes it particularly suitable for families with older children, allowing parents to enjoy a meal or a glass of wine while children are safely occupied nearby. The resort also features a stunning viewpoint at the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. Access is via a lift operated by room keycard, with the option to use the adjacent footpath if preferred. All the guest facing staff are excellent in the bars and restaurants are as are the people that service the rooms. Blowing a gale last night and still no indoor bar wind so strong it knocked my wine over. Portifino restaurant being set up tonight would like to book a table but no concierge or guest services answering calls. Even called the hotel direct and still no answer. What’s going on here? Noticed 2 lovely wedding events took place here during our stay. They had a lovely time and were well cared for awesome. Are hotel guests second class citizens when it comes to food and drink?
