Quill Gardens Boutique Hotel ★★★★

"Large house with a bed and breakfast feel to it and large pretty basic rooms with average comfort overall. Bed comfortable, room seating not so much. Quiet. Nice pool and views from pool/deck/eating area. Pretty remote so need a car otherwise its a $15 cab ride one way to town etc which adds up. Dinner was very good with good wine selection, both reasonably priced. Was not aware there was no breakfast or dinner served on a Saturday (and maybe Sunday?) but was offered a $15 breakfast coupon to a restaurant in town but that was a $15 cab ride each way! How about a free ride?? Hmmnn....Would stay in town if not renting a car, possibly stay if are renting car but still pricey for what it is in our opinion."

"Scuba diving team is excellent had a fantastic week of diving with Chris,Killian, Baylee, and Bruno. The best dive location was aquarium. So many turtles and octopus. Had all our gear set up everyday a took several videos of our dives so we could focus on experiencing the dive. If you are looking for amazing diving with a private feel this is the island to visit."

The Old Gin House Hotel ★★★

"Good for sleeping! but the price level does not match the current state of the accommodation and what you actually get. To start with, I must say that the hotel has a new owner since Oct 2023. A lot still needs to be done to sort out the overdue maintenance. The photos on the website of various travel agencies and the hotel are not realistic with the current condition. The swimming pool is there, but it does not invite you to go in. (the water is very cloudy) the sunbeds have no mattresses and the edges of the pool, the stairs and the terrace are all peeling. There are no garbage bins and the garden is poorly maintained. The restaurant also leaves much to be desired. The hotel includes breakfast. This is exactly the same for 14 days. No variety in the bread, toppings, fruit or yogurt. The same thing on your plate every day. There are so many things that really need to be improved in a simple way. Apart from the long-term issues that I can understand require more time. The rooms are always neatly clean and are maintained daily. They are now renovating the first rooms. Hopefully things will turn out well soon. The adjacent Scubaqua diving school is of top quality. You immediately feel at home there. And also the adjacent restaurant "Barrelhouse", showing that it is possible on Statia. In short, don't expect too much from the hotel and especially enjoy the Caribbean climate and the beautiful diving on this special island."
