A'La Vista Motel

I booked this last minute and it was the ONLY room available in Palmerston North that night. Great welcome from the owner I have to say. Really friendly. Sadly, thats pretty much where the list of good things stop. A La Vista in Italian means At/In the View - yes a view of a fence and carpark. The room was terrible. I pulled the duvet off the bed as it looked flea infested. The carpet was stained all to hell so much so that I couldn't bring myself to walk bare feet on it. The fridge had missing shelves, bulbs were missing from light fittings, the toilet wasn't fixed to the floor and it moved, the toilet roll holder wasn't fixed properly either and the toilet roll was constantly on the floor, the floor tiles didn't run to the walls, there were spiders on the ceiling along with cob webs and fly poo. The wallpaper was peeling off badly on every corner in the bathroom and there was dirt in every corner, the vanity doors were 'blown' and the toilet cistern dripped ALL night. The curtains didn't cover the windows so people could see into the room. The folk next door were not short stays - I am told they were emergency housing - and they fought until the wee hours - 'F' and 'C' words flew about, cars revved and the reggae music and banging nosies didn't stop until around midnight. I told the owner that there was bad language and music blaring but he kinda shrugged. When I found out they were long stay I realised why he wasn't that ecstatic about doing anything. Woke up at 5am as the chinese family on the other side started fighting and then they packed up and left. The sound proofing is non existent. I got up and ironed my clothes - well I did until the ironing board (that had the top wrapped in a towel tied at the end with a knot) collapsed mid ironing and fell to the floor - it was so old and decrepit. On the upside......well the shower was hot - but the body wash dispenser was empty. I left the room early, threw the keys on the front desk and hightailed it out of there. NEVER again. Do not stay here. Its AWFUL. The place needs a torch. EMERGENCY HOUSING SHOULD BE DISCLOSED! I am asking ********** for a refund.
