We have been coming to this hotel for the last 30 years and have many fond memories of our previous stays, so when my wife asked me if we could have a break from work as we were both very stressed I immediately decided that a couple of days at the Forest Park Hotel was just what we needed. We were exited to arrive at the hotel feeling relaxed and happy to be staying at one of our favorite old school hotels, unfortunately upon checking in we received the most hostile attitude from the receptionist. My first reaction was to become angry but I decided to keep calm and try to not let his rudeness spoil our trip, after checking in I could not get the rude receptionist out of my mind as I love this hotel and felt so angry that one member of staff could upset a customer so much possibly destroying the reputation of such a charming hotel. I see that the previous 2 reviews also complained about rude staff, and would like to plead with the owners or manager to either train the existing staff on how to treat customer or if they are not trainable then I recommend that you replace them with new staff that will give professional service with a smile. We are living in extremely difficult times and I believe many businesses will not survive, so it amazes me how any staff member can be so rude, to me this shows a total lack of respect for his job and employer. By the way I have been in the service industry for 40 years, If the owners or manager read this review please take action immediately, If you keep allowing any staff member to be so rude then customers will simply not return. I hope my review does not stop any one from staying at the Forest Park Hotel personally I will still return but if on my next visit I receive such rude attitude from the staff I will request a meeting with the manager or owner. Please understand that I am only writing this review as I love this hotel and cannot stand to see any staff member destroy its reputation, of course it is possible that the rude receptionist has never received any training on customer service in which case I can partly excuse his behavior. Finally a note to Mr rude receptionist if you read this review and understand that I am talking about you I hope that you will consider my review and try to improve your customer skills and show respect for your job and your employer by not upsetting the hotel guests and causing loss of businesses to the hotel.

I booked 3 nights directly with this hotel. The owner was helpful and efficient in her correspondence so I had high hopes that our stay would be good. Sadly that was not to be. On our arrival we were met by the owner's assistant (smiley but with little English and little training despite claiming to have an MBA in business studies) and shown into a tiny room with harsh fluorescent (flickering) lighting, cracked glass in the door to the balcony (unusable as it was in a forest and got dark early), wobbly furniture crammed into the space and cheap fittings. It was also cold as the heating wasnt on. At breakfast the next day we were not asked what we would like. Instead the assistant presented me with a 'greasy spoon' plate of bacon and fried egg. When I said I didnt want this he said 'It is compulsory'. The owner returned the second day and we outlined our reservations about the hotel. At this point she got very defensive and rebutted all our points. She said I'd asked for the room with a balcony. True but I didnt know it was one of the smaller rooms with no room to swing a cat. She complained I was saying her 'home' was rubbish (although she seemed to live in Limassol so was running the house as a business ie a hotel). Breakfast was the cheapest ingredients including some ghastly highly diluted squash that would be an insult to a child. The butter was a butter substitute, the bread the cheapest sliced. On the third day, perhaps because there were more customers, the breakfast was marginally better - with yoghurt, cake, boiled eggs magically appearing. There was even heating in our room. Overall we found the experience rather stressful and if we hadnt paid up front would have left after day one. It was definitely not worth 60 euros a night as was clear to us when we moved on and found a whole spacious comfortable apartment right by the beach in Pissouri for just 50 euros a night! The one saving grace was a warm fire that was lit for us so we could sit and read in comfort, something it was impossible to do in the tiny cold room. The hotel is a pretty old building and could be so much better given decent investment and good customer focussed staff. Platres itself is also rather run down with many boarded up hotels and a betting shop (always a sign of problems). I would advise anyone wanting to walk and visit the lovely Troodos churches to base themselves elsewhere eg Troodos square or one of the other more attractive villages.
