Let me start by saying i completely get what some of the other reviewers are saying and why this may not have been a typical Marriott stay but the reality is you aren't getting a W or Ritz Carlton up in Sandusky. I read all the comments before rolling the dice and staying here for 2 nights in a suite with 2 queen beds (had a couch with a trundle bed as well which was great for 1 adult and 3 teens) while visiting Cedar Point on 8/18-20. I'm glad I stayed here. The hotel was clearly renovated and its staff, especially Heather, were very helpful. The breakfast was typical for what you would expect at this level of hotel - waffle maker line (they may need more than 2 of them though), eggs, an egg souffle thing, bacon (had turkey patties one day), bagels, toast, coffee, juice, cereal, etc. The staff did an amazing job keeping the dining area stocked and clean despite several people not taking the time to clean up after themselves. The gym and indoor pool were nice pluses. There was a sign posted in the elevator asking people not to jump up and down in it - I figure that is why they may have had elevator problems in the past (based on some other postings). The room and bathroom were above average in square footage. there was plenty of room for myself, two 17-year old boys and a 14-year old girl. The bathroom was spacious. The room had a closet that literally could have been another room (another reviewer mentioned this and I 100% get it now). AND the room had the window shades that you roll down to black out the sun (I saw this was an issue in one of the reviews); i brought a sleeping mask because of my concern here but didn't need it. In fact, I accidentally left the mask in my room when we checked out and received a call within an hour, and a text, letting me know i had left it along with instructions on how to retrieve it/have it sent to me (I declined this service since shipping would cost more than the mask but it was a nice thing to offer). I didn't hear outside noise, the a/c/heating unit was quiet and I didn't have any issues sleeping (I would request firm pillows though; the down ones, although soft and fluffy, flatten real quick). Overall, this is not a 5 star hotel but it is definitely a 5 star rating within its hotel category. This is where i could say "trust me, I've stayed at over more hotels than there are days in the week," but the reality is that doesn't matter, I'm just trying to be helpful and know that everyone will have a different experience. Good luck - especially if you have read all this. . .
